New Book Says Alleged Craigslist Killer Had Bondage and S&M Fantasies

(CBS)
NEW YORK (CBS) Who is accused Craigslist killer Phillip Markoff, what are his sexual desires and how did police use Internet technology to track him down? Those are the questions a new book written by two crime reporters hopes to answer.
The intimate details Paul Larosa, a veteran producer for CBS News' 48 Hours Mystery and Maria Cramer, a Boston Globe reporter, have dug up in "Seven Days of Rage," tantalize.
The book claims to expose Markoff's wide-ranging and unusual sexual tastes. He allegedly posted profiles of himself on several adult alternative-lifestyle Web sites, expressing his interest in bondage, sadomasochism and in particular, his desire to be dominated.
But the book reveals that police believe it was Markoff who dominated a series of victims, starting with the alleged assault and robbery of a prostitute in Boston, then moving to the robbery and murder of model/masseuse Julissa Brisman and ending with the attempted robbery of an exotic dancer in Rhode Island.
The tale is all the more unbelievable because Markoff had another life that was squeaky clean. He was a promising medical student at Boston University and was only weeks away from his wedding when police arrested him while driving with his fiancee. She knew nothing of her lover's alleged sinister side.
The book features exclusive interviews with the surviving victims and friends of Markoff. The book also chronicles a minute-by-minute account of authorities' race to capture Markoff before he could cross state lines.
"48 Hours Mystery" is also running an hour long special on the case Saturday, Sept. 19 at 10 p.m. ET/PT in conjunction with the release of the book "Seven Days of Rage: The Deadly Crime Spree of The Craigslist Killer" (Pocket Books).
