Prosecutors in Jaycee Dugard Case Think Phillip Garrido's Apology Letter is Bull

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (CBS/AP) The man accused of kidnapping, raping and holding Jaycee Dugard captive for nearly two decades wrote a jailhouse apology letter that talks about "ending a sexual problem believed to be impossible."

But according to CNN, prosecutors believe Phillip Garrido is using this letter as an opportunity to manipulate the "public perceptions" of the kidnapping case.

Garrido's handwritten letter, received Thursday by CNN affiliate KCRA, did not mention Dugard or her two daughters allegedly fathered by Garrido, said Anzio Williams, news director at the Sacramento-based station.

"First off," Garrido wrote, "I would like to apologize to every human being for what has taken place."

He continued, "People all over the world are hearing testimony that through the spirit of Christ a mental process took place ending a sexual problem believed to be impossible."

El Dorado County District Attorney Vern Pierson called Garrido a "master manipulator" who is trying to "manipulate the process, the people involved in that process, and, most significantly, his prior victims."

"It appears once again that Mr. Garrido seeks leniency due to claims of religious transformation and alleged personal change," Pierson said.

The letter was three paragraphs long. Williams said KCRA only released the one paragraph deemed newsworthy.

The station said it has received a total of three letters from Garrido. In an earlier letter, Garrido alleged Dugard's civil rights were violated during questioning by authorities.

Garrido and his wife, Nancy, are being been held at El Dorado County Jail. They were arrested in August and charged with abducting Dugard outside her South Lake Tahoe home in 1991. Prosecutors allege the couple sexually assaulted Dugard and held her in a secret compound at their Antioch, Calif., home. The couple has pleaded not guilty.

IMHO the so called laws in this country are a joke! this freak will sit back in prison, watch TV and waste taxpayer money. what is wrong with the american people that they continue to allow these freaks to kidnap, rape and murder the children of this country, and everyone wants to sit around and discuss treatment options for these poor souls and half the time they are allowed to get back out for seconds on the next innocent kid. our laws do nothing to stop this and our system lets them back out to make headlines, do we need news this badly? Comeon people, wake up and demand the gov to protect the children of this country with real laws and serious consequences that actually have the force to deter crime, not just a vacation to a camp for a few years. Its up to each and every one of you to yell at the top of your lungs to everyone who will or wont listen, lets stop this from continuing, protect our children instead of doing nothing and being the next victim...

Oh, that's right, our legal system is too "sophisticated" for that to happen. Yes, we'd better let this poor, precious pervert live out his days "unmolested".

I guess we can be compassionate though. Let's let him have the best gift of all: romance. Let's set him up with Tyrone, a big, muscular, lonely dude who needs a companion. Yes, Philly boy, we'll give you the same kind of gift you gave your victim: decades upon decades of unrequited love, the rough kind, naturally. One, nice big burrito of love every day for the rest of your pathetic life Philly boy.

I am not God to know if these guy Garrido is sincere or not! However this guy should never ever be other than in jail for life. Yes, for his own protection and so for women in general.

I'm a Christian and it is evident to me that Garido's letter is phony. The first person he needs to apologize to is Jaycee. Oh, and he needs to get saved. He doesn't know Jesus. He has proved that by his actions. He is delusional. Yes, i am judging according to the word of God. I will pray for his salvation and hope that he will truly repent. I am also praying that if he has killed other girls that the proof will come out and the precious little bodies, so their families can have closure.

If he ever knew Jesus, he would confess immediately and asked to be sentenced the same day. He'd take responsiblity for his deeds. He has not, and will not do that.

You can't make evil take on Godliness. If he wants saving, he'll ask for it. But he won't. All he wants is a free ride, not a cross to bear.

The only reason his "sexual Problem" is over is beacuse he was arrested. What needs to be done is he needs to be put in a prison, then all the convicts turned loose within the prison. turn out the lights, and all the guards go home for the night. In the morning there won't be much of the "baby raper" left. They don't like baby rapers.

who cares about his letter of apology, does it give this girl back her childhood does it give her back anything that he took away, no he doesn't deserve to live he doesn't even deserve a fair trial he didn't give her anything that was fair, did he ask her if she wanted to stay or go home or maybe he gave her the option of being raped, anything he is saying or doing is to try to control her mind from a cell, he deserves nothing but maybe a bullet in between his eyes, he disgusts me

This is a very sick couple. He seems to think he is converted because he believes in God. This man is out of touch with reality. If he was truly converted he would have gone to the police and owned up to his sick behavior, turned Dugard loose to her parents with the children and faced his demise like he is going to now and his wife is no better .
