Madoff Screwed Charity Then Slept with CFO, Says Book

NEW YORK (CBS) Bernie Madoff cheated America for billions. But according to a new tell-all book by the chief financial officer of one of the charities he bilked, he also cheated on his wife.

Sheryl Weinstein, an accountant who, according to Bloomberg.com, publicly denounced Bernie Madoff for stealing her family's savings, is set to unveil her secret relationship with the con-man in her new memoir "Madoff's Other Secret: Love, Money, Bernie and Me."

By the late 1990s, the Jewish volunteer organization Hadassah had invested over $40 million with Bernie Madoff, according to the New York Times.

The paper reports the organization, including Hadassah National President Nancy Falchuk, were completely in the dark about the alleged extramarital affair. In a Thursday letter to Hadassah's board, Falchuk wrote that she "knew nothing of her relationship with Mr. Madoff until today."

Ruth Madoff, Bernie Madoff's wife for almost 50 years, was also in the dark, her attorney told the Times.

Weinstein's book is scheduled for release by the end of August, a spokesperson confirmed with Bloomberg.com. The publisher says the hardcover book, listed on Amazon for $23.99, will give details of the affair, including an intimate description of Bernie Madoff and photographs.

Bernie Madoff is currently serving 150 years in a federal prison in North Carolina for stealing more than $60 billion from investors in a sophisticated Ponzi scheme that lasted decades.

by FrankDenise August 14, 2009 9:04 PM EDT: Enough with this piece of garbage...All I know is this whole scandal had to be a conspiricy that the US government and IRS had to know about...There is no way someone can pull a scam this big without noone getting wise to it....Dont worry if the average Joe did something wrong involving taxes or something to that effect,they would put you behind bars so quick your head would spin...Typical American stroke job...Rip off the unions that invested there pensions with..Dont worry it was just their entire life savings you just made off with...Sorry excuse for a country that cant even protect those that helped build and support it with their hard earned tax dollars...Help out the banks ,the car companies and the other thieves but who cares about hard working slobs...Oh its so sickening....Dont worry though if Japan has an earthquake we will be there with bells on to bail out them as well...United Strokes Of America; Reply to this comment

is this the default answer for all knowledge about her husband of fifty years? i could buy the fact that he hid who he really was for 10, or 20, or maybe even 30 years ... but 50 years? she had to know she was married to a sociopath ... she had to know that something wasn't right. Both Sheryl Weinstein and Bernie Madoff are disgusting!

by canislupus16 August 14, 2009 6:01 PM EDT: Same here, no way I'm spending my money. I'm going to grab a copy off the shelf at Barnes & Noble, order up a smooth mocha, and get comfy in one of their overstuffed chairs have a good read. Or look. Or whatever.

But wow, she's so p*ssed that the backlash on her person is less important than really nailing this guy's *ss. She's got to out for embarrassing him more and be figuring the ol' wife is might open up about who else was involved.

I'm not sure the book deal makes her out to be a ho. There is a certain altruism to her story.


by get_down August 14, 2009 9:33 PM EDT: On the other hand, if there is "Neil Diamond"'s concert in town, I wouldn't hesitate to charge it with my CC for a couple of tickets even if it'll cost me 250 per ticket - because it will be well worth it - my hard-earned money and time! This woman's book is trashy as far as I'm concerned - wouldn't even read it if it's free!

Frankly, if that is a fair photo of the woman he had an affair with, I'd have slept with her also.
