NEW YORK (CBS) The last few weeks have shocked America with tales of two horrific, jealously-fueled murders. NFL great Steve McNair was murdered by his mistress in his Nashville condo, say police.

And in Brazil, big-hearted boxing champ Arturo Gatti was strangled to death by his exotic dancer wife while he drunkenly slept, according to Brazilian authorities.

The twin murders are as disturbing as they are salacious. But it's not the first time that sports and murder have crossed paths.

by carolcape July 15, 2009 9:45 PM EDT: I think most of successful sports players are on some kind of steroids and they tend to be controlling people to be around.They feel even though they have their main woman, that they have what they think is a right to whatever they desire. In the case of McNair, with all his wealth, why was she in financial distress. I mean he bought her a cadi for her birthday and she had to make the payments. That is not a motive for murder, but what other promises and things did he do to her to driver her over the edge. She was a lot younger then him. I don't know any history on the boxer, they say he was a great fellow, but he may have not been that way behind closed doors. I am not trying to make excuses about murder, but abuse could be a motive.; Reply to this comment
