Philadephia cop charged in squad car rape

(CBS/KYW/AP) PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police officer Keith Corley has been arrested for raping a woman while on duty in August. Police said on Wednesday that the 27-year-old was charged with rape, indecent assault and related offenses.

According to CBS station KYW, the 32-year-old victim told police that she was waiting for a bus in West Philadelphia at about 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 11 when Corley offered her a ride. He then took her to a nearby park and assaulted her.

Authorities say Corley, assigned to the 18th Police District, was on duty, in uniform and in a marked police car when he assaulted the woman.

Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey has suspended Corley for 30 days with intent to dismiss.

"Obviously, it's something of great concern. It's another, you know, black mark against the Department but again it doesn't represent everyone on the Department," Ramsey told KYW. "None of this is tolerable and we'll take whatever action we need to take to rid our ranks of them."

Corley has been on the force for about four years.

by ddog88 September 3, 2011 7:47 PM EDT: I'd say let the evidence play out on this deal. Not guilty until proven guilty. At a bus stop at 3:30 am? Cops do commit crimes on occasion, but committing a rape on duty, in your own vehicle sounds pretty stupid and cops usually know evidence. Should be easy enough to prove if he did or did not do it.; Reply to this comment

I don't know if the guy did it or not, but what person, a single, alone female no less, is waiting in West Philly at 3:30am for a bus? That makes absolutely no sense to me.

by dragon0058 September 5, 2011 4:31 PM EDT: Did you ever consider that she may have just gotten off work and was waiting for the bus to take her home. Believe it or not there are some people in this country that work ungodly hours because it is the only job they can find.

my god, how are we supposed to trust law enforcement?? they say it's not indicative of the entire force, but how do you know who the good cops are from the bad cops?
this guy should get the full consequence of the law for this horrific crime.
his victim should be allowed to retaliate as well. perhaps a swift kick in the nards would be a good start.; Reply to this comment
