Willie Nelson plea rejected in marijuana possession case

(CBS/AP) EL PASO, Texas - A judge has rejected a plea deal that would have resolved Willie Nelson's marijuana possession case in West Texas with a fine, saying the country singer shouldn't get what she considers special treatment.

Nelson was arrested in November after a Border Patrol agent said 6 ounces of marijuana were found on Nelson's tour bus.

Judge Becky Dean-Walker told The Associated Press on Wednesday that she rejected prosecutor Kit Bramblett's suggestion that Nelson resolve the case by pleading guilty and paying a $500 fine for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Dean-Walker claims the prosecutor "doesn't do that for anybody else."

The judge says Nelson should be charged with the misdemeanor marijuana possession, which carries up to a year in jail.

The govenor has expressed deep concern over ammunition and guns heading south than pot going north.He will be relected he carries a 78% state wide approval. He knows the older voters were younger smokers at one time and has used this approach to maintain a quiet term in office and will return to office next election.; Reply to this comment

But, they seem to need their opressive thumb on any person or group that thumbs their nose at the retarded laws created for the sole purpose of being *****. It is a money making operation. Unlike the arrest and convictions of all illegals in that part of the country, these jerks rather go after an American Icon of Freedom of expression and a Message of Peace to all. Willie, Go for a JURY TRIAL! Can you say: "jury nullification"?
I knew that you could. IF they won't let you pay a fine then go to trial. It's my belief NO jury would convict you. BJ

Absolutely stupid. Its time for common sense in govt if its even possible. Judge in this case should go to prison for wasting tax payer dollars.
