(CBS/KYTX/AP) SAN FRANCISCO - It's a story that has caused an outcry around the world - Kerry Campbell admitted on national television to injecting her eight-year-old daughter with Botox.

Now, apparently, the girl is no longer living with her.

According to ABC News' Good Morning America, she has lost custody of her child and is under investigation.

According to CBS affiliate KYTX, Campbell is a beautician from Birmingham, England, who lives in San Francisco.

She first talked publicly about using Botox on her daughter Britney in March when she told UK paper The Sun that the drug was becoming common in children's beauty pageants.

Pageant officials deny those claims.

In an interview with the paper, 8-year-old Britney is quoted saying: "My friends think it's cool I have all the treatments and they want to be like me. I check every night for wrinkles, and when I see some I want more injections."

She also told the paper she wants a breast and nose job soon so she can "be a star."

Britney also said, "The injections used to hurt, but now I don't cry much."

The shots can be painful and aren't recommended for anyone under 18 for cosmetic purposes.

A source close to the girl told ABC News that she is not living with her mother, and she is doing well.

Kerry Campbell declined to tell "Good Morning America" where she got the drug but said it was a trusted source.

What a sicko. I think any parent who puts their girls in these pageants should ahve their children taken away. It is just wrong.

As a Child Psychologist, I must speak out. This culture has already done enough to send children the message that their bodies are "bad". That they need: Make up, diet pills, and breast implants to be good enough! This mom is sending the message to her daughter that her face is not "good enough"....what 8 year old deserves THAT message? I deal with kids with low self esteem that grow up to be depressed, anxious and insecure adults. This child is on her way to self doubt, poor body image, eating disorders, and depression. Prognosis is not good. So if CPS is stepping in, GOOD. It's a strong message to parents: think about the message you are sending to your child.

How about focusing on grades, talents, moral character, inner beauty, natural abilities, creativity! Oh ya, sorry, that's not valued in our culture. We like Kim Kardahians butt, that's righ, butt implants...oops....wow... amazing!

Sutton27,
Obviously, a nerve of yours has been struck. Calmn down, think about this and try to be rational. First, the mother going on national TV and admitting to botoxing her minor child was foolish. Think of Micheal Jackson admitting years ago he liked to share the bed with boys. It just invites problems and attention from the system. Kerry Campbell had a moment exactly like that. Don't blame the system. Blame Ms. Campbell she invited the attention. Second, the whole child pageant world. Many feel its child abuse. It teaches young girls especially that looks are more important than anything else. Additionally, this mother with botoxing, having the child want breast implants, waxing her legs and other parts of her body is robbing the girl of her childhood. Britney was being forced into the pressures that, under normal circumstances girls don't start really dealing with until their teens. Surely you don't think robbing a girl of her childhood is ok? You want to destroy her self esteem and have her look at herself and wonder what else she needs to 'fix?' It's abuse plain and simple to rob the girl of just being a kid. Lastly, how can you defend the mother? Your arguments that braces are akin to obtained and administered illegally botox is laughable. Seems you are more upset about the mother losing her child rather than the acts she's done. Her mom may love her, but her mom is not a good parent. A good parent lets their child grow up naturally. They don't force adult matters on children. Kerry Campbell has done this. She's harmed her daughter's mental health and introduced her into a world that she had no business being in.

Kerry Campbell has no one to blame but herself. She got what she deserved.

yes, this has struck a nerve, I and many people do many hours of volunteer work with children who are actually abused, neglected and starved...nobody steps up and helps, nobody donates money, nobody helps provide meals, yes there is a good number of us that volunteer our work and money but there are 1000s times more people who like to run their mouth more than actually do something about it...any of these rock throwers actually done anything about it, no, they can sit back and run their mouths, pretend they are child psyco-logist, this is the real world and people will take up arms against a woman who wanted the best for her daughter, who are you to say she isn't a good parent....taking the child from the mother doesn't cause damage? Give me a break...yeah it wasn't the wisest move by botoxing the child, and if seen fit, yes punish the mom, send her to parenting classes, give her a fine, make her do community service...but to remove the daughter from an actual loving home, give me a break...there are bigger fish to fry, real kids who need help and homes and yet America wants to burn this lady at the stake...and to the "Doc" don't give me that BS, self image has been around since humans have existed, everyone wants the best, looks the best, and unless you had a perfect smile, parents were rich, and looked perfect in everyway, and even at that you grew up with imprefections that bothered you and you wish you never had...I have worked with 100s of child psychologist and they wouldn't say a word you mentioned...every kid wants the best and "good" parents want the best for their child, I am in no way claiming botoxing your kid is the right thing to do, I will let the Judge decide that...I am quite upset they did remove the daughter from a mother who DOES care about her, even if she did make a poor decision, she wasn't botoxing on the hour every hour, people are ridiculous now adays...try working with special needs, try working with abused neglected kids, try anything, but obviously more people know how to run their mouth and express their opinions rather than look at the overall picture and focus on what really matters

so parents who smoke around their kids is perfectly acceptable, parents who put their kids in private school away from family for nine months(at this early age) is prefectly acceptable, removing a happy child out of a home and putting her into foster care is perfectly acceptable...yeah she won't need therapy after this as she cries her sleep at night because she can't see her mom, putting braces on a child has NO health/medical benefits, and is purely cosmetic, because you have crooked teeth doesn't mean you are going to die at an early age....by stating it has health/medical benefits without proving health/medical benefits does not prove your statement worthwhile...why don't you say it is insane to buy your kids high end clothes or shoes, why don't you say it is insane to put your child in sports AND GET LESSONS....insane is america, buying into media, voicing your opinion and wanting to burn this lady at the stake, look at yourselves and worry about that....I've seen so much of the "world" now take up arms against this lady and not care one second that there are more severe cases out there than this, you "Rock Throwers" are insane and hypocritical....we shall allow this but throw rocks at that...give it up, you are the ones insane....by the way I have 3 kids

Enjoyable rant. Now would you mind terribly if we got back to the subject of THIS article?

New reports say the "mom" is not named Kerry Campbell and does not live in San Francisco. It's getting a little creepy, folks.

wow if you think that is bad, I've heard parents take their kids to a dentist and put braces on their kids teeth to straighten them so they don't get made fun of, that is so crazy, not only that, its years of pain and torture, why would they do that???? CPS is all tied up in this case, while real kids are getting abused, starved and neglected...where is the focus, should be on the parents smoking cigarettes inside the home of young kids or why not those that enrol their kids in private school at the age of 1, or those parents who put braces on their kids teeth to straighten them out (really, what is the difference between botox and braces, multiple sports, higher education at early ages before kindergarten, high end clothes and shoes, body deformation, piercings and tattoos) why be hypocritical towards botox if everything else that makes your kid socially acceptable, perfect, or helps put your kid at an advantage over other kids are all the same, I think there are other solutions and yes botox is most likely not the answer but what each person sees to help their child in life is perceived differently, the mother happens to be a beautician, that is what she resorted to, if the mother was a body builder and forced her to lift weights everyday, is that any different...CPS shouldn't have taken the child from her, yes it probably wasn't the wisest to botox your kid but obviously she loves her kid and wanted the best for her, she is not a threat to her child...GIVE HER KID BACK!!!

Well, for one thing, the difference is that the procedures are being performed by professionals who have spent many years learning and perfecting the art of "braces placement". Secondly, straightening of your teeth has esthetic as well as medical and functional benefits. Correction of bite has many valuable paybacks which will assist someone improve his/her life. Not all benefits are purely cosmetic and not all are designed to win pageants. Third, even professionals, such as orthodontics and dentists, have limitations placed upon them for the protection of the patients when it comes to Botox injections. Perhaps the rules are different in England, but the last of time I checked, beauticians were not allowed to perform medical procedures in this country.
