Middle schoolers kicked off bus for "obscene gesture" - farting

(CBS) - Two Ohio middle school students were reportedly kicked off their school bus last weekend for "breaking wind."

The act was deemed an "obscene gesture" by Canal Winchester Middle School officials, and both received a one day suspension from riding the bus for violating the student code of conduct, reports the Columbus Dispatch.

Both students' parents reportedly say the school officials are overreacting.

"It's very laughable, that's what it is", says James Nichols father of one of the students, according to the Dispatch.

Nichols' wife Kristin Kuzora was reportedly less amused, due to a health problem.

"As a sufferer of gastro-intestinal issues who was recently hospitalized for these issues, I take great offense to passing gas being cause for suspension and marked as an obscene gesture," Kuzora wrote to The Dispatch.

by sjsmith94 May 13, 2011 9:59 PM EDT: This story hit home this week for me. You see I was sent home from job for farting. Yes really. I work in a one million square foot warehouse in Enfield, Ct. The ceiling is a least 20 feet high. We walk around the building picking product from shelves. However, my manager called me into the office around 6:30 Tuesday night and with much fumbling and sputtering told me I had to go home because I was farting. Further that several people were getting "ill" and "nauseous" (in a warehouse!). That wasn't the best of it though, they forced me to use my vacation time!; Reply to this comment


by Harden_Tar May 13, 2011 1:51 PM EDT: Where is the ACLU? Where is the EFA? (Everyone Farts Alliance). This is outrageous! it is discrimination. If this is a true medical condition, the Americans with Disablilty Act should be referenced and the school sued.

It is a couple of middle schoolers having fun on the bus. The story does not say if they are boys or girls. Anyone want to venture a guess? 13 year old boys farting on the bus? Wish I had a dollar everytime that happens.; Reply to this comment

With American children falling behind further and further everyday, maybe this is why, they are to worried about gas! Somebody, probably the parents lawyer, needs to explain to teh "School Officials" the difference between an "obscene gesture" (which is a voluntary act) & a natural bodily function. Unless, of course, it is the contention of the "School Officials" that the students were able to "manufacture" the offending gas(ses) at will. In which case the "offending" students should attend a meeting of the shcool board and give a "virtuoso" performance. All covered under freedom of speech. :)); Reply to this comment
