Jaycee Lee Dugard kidnappers Phillip and Nancy Garrido plead guilty

(CBS/KOVR/AP) PLACERVILLE, Calif. - Phillip and Nancy Garrido have pleaded guilty to kidnapping Jaycee Lee Dugard when she was 11 years old and holding her captive for 18 years.

Phillip Garrido entered the plea Thursday under a surprise deal with prosecutors that calls for a sentence of more than 430 years to life.

His wife, Nancy Garrido, also pleaded guilty. Her deal calls for a sentence of 36 years to life.

The Garridos were arrested 19 months ago. In addition to kidnapping and false imprisonment, they were charged with multiple counts of rape, lewd conduct with a minor and child pornography, reports CBS station KOVR.

They pleaded guilty to all the charges except child pornography.

The Garridos confined Dugard to the backyard of the couple's Antioch, Calif. home, which had been shielded by shrubbery and a false fence and outfitted with tents and sheds.

While still a teenager, Dugard gave birth there to the two daughters fathered by Phillip Garrido and delivered by Nancy Garrido. Dugard is now 30.

Phillip Garrido had been under parole supervision because of a 1977 conviction for raping a 25-year-old woman. He was released from prison in 1988 and placed under federal supervision until 1999, when California took over. The state has been criticized for its handling of Garrido.

The plea deals will spare Dugard and her two daughters, ages 13 and 16, from having to testify at a trial.

We have the witnesses, the DNA proof the testimony of the victim the confessions and the crime scene evidence, but STILL needed to have THE pervert HIMSELF "admit" to what he did????? Why???
