Pastor Terry Jones receiving death threats after Quran burning

(CBS) - Terry Jones, the Gainesville, Fla. Pastor who burned a Quran after a mock trial that found the book guilty of crimes against humanity on March 20, is now reportedly receiving death threats for his public display.

Jones has received over 300 death threats since the "trial." Some of them even list a specific date, time and place, Jones told ABC News.

His torching of the Muslim holy book, which was streamed live online and promoted on Facebook, has incited deadly riots in Afghanistan.

At least 20 people were killed and many more injured as a handful of violent protests broke out in Afghanistan between Friday and Sunday, and angry crowds were heard changing "Death to Karzai" and "Death to America." Afghan president Hamid Karzai has called on Congress to condemn the burning.

Jones has said he doesn't feel directly responsible for the riots.

"The actions of breaking in, setting on fire, and killing of at least 10 individuals so far is highly unacceptable for the government of the United States," Jones said.

The FBI says Hezbollah has a $2.4 million bounty on his head, reports the network.

by hawkeyenurse May 18, 2011 6:05 AM EDT: I would like to burn every Quran in existence as Muslims are a detriment to society, but I would not for fear it would put American lives, here or abroad, in danger. There were American soldiers attacked in retaliation for the burning, I think we should therefore charge this dumbf*#% Terry Jones with murder and set his a$$ on fire! The Qur'an states that apostasy is punishable by death.

The Qu'ran also states

Sura 2:187-189 "And kill them wherever ye shall find them, and eject them from whatever place they have ejected you; for civil discord is worse than carnage: yet attack them not at the sacred Mosque, unless they attack you therein; but if they attack you, slay them. Such the reward of the infidels...Fight therefore against them until there be no more civil discord, and the only worship be that of God: but if they desist, then let there be no hostility, save against the wicked."

They Islamic response will be that the bible advocates violence as well. Not on every second page.

The Qur'an clearly states that ALL NON MUSLIMS must be killed or converted. As someone who lost his entire family to this madness I urge everyone to wake up and do something about this.; Reply to this comment


by coastx April 6, 2011 1:25 AM EDT: Another take on this is the bible and Koran were written to attempt to socialize otherwise heathen people. For lack of their own imagination and ability to work with people collaboratively, both texts lay out a pretty comprehensive plan for domestication. Alternatively, if we extract the thesis from both texts there is a way to perceive the purpose of either religion, and in so doing we discover that the bible has a golden rule embedded in the New Testament ,what equivalent in the Koran is embedded in the Hadith, which is sort of a new Testament. What I mean is these are equivalent revisionist texts which attempt to update and make current the original texts. The Bible's golden rule can be found in Matthew 7:12, "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them." Islam promotes this ethical code in Number 13 of Imam Al-Nawawi's Forty Hadiths, "None of you [truly] believes until he wishes for his brother what he wishes for himself." One other thing. The bible is also radicalized (Deut 13), although it subordinates to the law of the land where the Koran IS the law of the land. Think about it. = )!; Reply to this comment

Free expression is a stress valve. Islam perpetrates hate activities all the time, like burning the American flag and destroying pictures of Obama, which are stressful events for Americans, yet we don't retaliate and threaten to wipe out their race. burning the Koran was a de-stressor, which is better than being a garbage bag for all their evil incantations. Rethink your understanding of the 1st amendment.

The "Pastor" has just stomped on the toes of a bunch of psychos.

by mikelyle April 5, 2011 3:10 PM EDT: There is no doubt in my mind that Islam has the capacity for tolerance. After all, tolerance is a main component and both the strength and weakness of religion ~ any religion.
Those spiritual leaders who are responsible for inciting the rioting and carnage of their followers should be brought to the light, exposed and dealt with. In no way can murder for the burning of a Quran be justified! In no way does the infantile and turbulent destructiveness of His followers bring glory to Allah!
Such behavior should be designated criminal, and those in leadership whipping up such frenzy prosecuted for all which results, including the murder of innocents!
It's shameful, it's despicable to be caught in the world eye behaving the way so many of these poor people in the Mideast are being depicted in media. Those sincere and sincerely ignorant islamists who are guilty of unabatedly expressing such vile impulses should be brought once again back to the basic principles of a tolerant religion.; Reply to this comment

by coastx April 5, 2011 4:56 AM EDT: Yes, correct, but you can burn the Koran or the Bible as a statement of your political views. You just are not allowed to plot the death of your detractors while doing so. The idea is you can think whatever you like: however, Sharia law does not allow this, which makes this system incompatible with US policy. Also, Islam can practice certain rites within their religion so long as these activities do not undermine US policy, but once challenged by parties as unfair or infringing on liberties guaranteed under the US constitution the process defaults to US procedures for handling disputes. In case anyone has missed it, Petraeus defaulted to UN standards involving the exercise of free speech in the US, which he is attempting to subordinate US policy to the UN in principle. The UN can take a one way trip to the moon on a ballistic missile, and Patraeus can be the pilot.; Reply to this comment

Some of these comments are ridiculous. Jones has every right to burn any book he wants. It is free speech. The same hypocritical liberals who defended the desecration of the American flag, many many times, are denigrating Jones for doing the same thing to the Quran. The liberals are hypocrites. They'll bash anything about America but stand up for the same Muslims who launched a Jihad against this country and are killing our soldiers in the Mideast. Just one more reason why 80% of the country doesn't take liberals seriously.

In this case, the government targeted for change is the US, and literally anything that challenges/collapses status quo social morality will be used, hence lofting abortion rights, the LGB lifestyle, radicalism that can be used as an insurgency to attack the Bill of Rights, anything. And, where people are concerned, where there is no need for them they are discarded or set aside. For example, the dream act was abandoned when Neos realized they couldn't depend on Hispanic's principled on the Bill of Rights as a reliable voting base. Alternatively, Obama has been seeding Muslims in communities throughout the US that will theoretically provide him with a voter population he needs for reelection. In other words, he's granting US citizenship to an ethnic group predisposed to align itself with his reform agenda. Obama's "change we can believe in" is transformation of the US to a charter under direct control of the UK, and Americans are completely missing the point. It's exciting, tumulus, unexpectedly explosive with suspense and peradventure like a Disneyland ride, and rather than realize they are being duped into a reform process in which they are being ripped off for their resources, they are going along one event to the next seemingly incoherent of their politically changing surroundings, and this is herding them into circumstances that once heading directly into the slaughter house it will be too late to change course. In reality, "folks" are playing happy idiot to Obama's UK press to reclaim the US as a charter government completely under the control of the British monarchy. Yes Jones has the right to burn the Koran under US law, but as you can see Neos will seize on this as an opportunity to subordinate the Bill of Rights to international policy what treason in principle alone is a reason to arm up!

For those that think this is just a free speech issue, I guess Hezbollah exercised their free speech, by placing a $2.4 million bounty on his head. Yahoo for free speech!!!!!!

I'll bet if they sought donations, they could raise a lot more than that.

by coastx April 5, 2011 4:39 AM EDT: There is a difference in freedom to speak and taking license to use speech to kill, a distinction that requires brain mass to both perceive and understand. These are the same in the mind of a sociopath. The law was supposed to have been taken up by people who are able to discriminate these differences for the protection of the 1st amendment and not to use it to exploit a covert agenda without accountability for sedition and treason. Jones is dead center on his right to say what he likes as long as he does not direct the deaths of others, which he has not done. On the other hand, Islamic extremists are indeed calling for his death, which is not only a violation of our laws but humanitarian ones ordinarily protected by the UN. Is isn't any wonder that Petraeus is throwing support behind radicals. He's one of them and even more d dangerous than Jones. Also, if you will notice, The Islamic individuals reacting to this event are rightfully targeting Obama, not Jones, because the correctly perceive this event to be completely under his control, which it is.
