Staten Island woman Megan Donovan charged with statutory rape of 13-year-old boy

(CBS/WCBS) NEW YORK - A 20-year-old Staten Island woman, Megan Donovan, is charged with statutory rape after she allegedly had sex with a 13-year-old boy.

"The allegation is that there was a formal act of sex, intercourse, with someone under 14," Louis Diamond the attorney for the boy told CBS station WCBS.

The 13-year-old, who lives in the Rossville section of Staten Island, has not been identified, the station reports.

A source close to the investigation said there were text messages exchanged about what happened and that the boy bragged about it. Donovan's attorney, however, told the court that the 13-year-old has an active imagination. According to the boy, seven people were present in the house, reports the station.

Donovan's neighbors in Prince's Bay say they were shocked at the charges against her.

"She's a very nice girl. I'm very surprised to hear that," neighbor Ron Hansen told the station.

If Donovan is convicted, she would have to be registered as a sex offender. .

Donovan was released on $1,000 bond, and ordered to stay away from the child and his family, WCBS reports.

mattp919, it is possible for a boy to become aroused unintentionally. Your body can react unintentionally to stimulants from the environment, it's a medical fact. The sexual abuse of boys is so underreported, many people do not even know it is happening. People laugh it off and regard it as a "status symbol" for the child. Reverse the genders - how many 13 year old girls would be delighted if everybody congratulated her on being raped by a 20 year old man and then promptly ignored her? You would agree that she would be scarred for life.

Yeah, sounds alot like rape to me. It is the 9 men who will be scarred for life by the court system while she goes out and does it again and again and again. These kids are not from 1970. It's a whole new ball game out there. Single parent homes with no morals and daily porn pumped to them from the internet. You have to expect that kids are growing up a whole lot faster.

Boys and girls' minds don't think alike you should know that!! Boys think about sex over a hundred times a day...yes I could see how a girl would have psychological damage from that but this boy wouldn't since he wanted to have sex, and plus the girl is 20 years old it's not some ugly old lady trying to force herself on to him

To me this is not a crime or rape...you can not force a boy to make his ***** hard that's impossible you can't put a gun to a kid's head and tell him to make his ***** erect sorry it's just not that easy they have to be attracted to you for that to happen thats why this was nothing more than a little puppy love relationship....even though she could do much much better and older but why should we care??? If it was a man having sex with a 13 year old girl the bond would have been $1million.

by EJGB April 3, 2011 2:03 PM EDT: Maybe not quite that much, but it would have been SUBSTANTIALLY more than $1000. Closer to the mark, perhaps, would be a bond of around $30k. Still lopsided however you look at it. Unlikely that it happened, and if it did - I'm afraid I'd have to side with matt's opinion.
