(CBS/WUSA) Washington Redskins defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth is accused of punching a man in the face in what appears to be a case of road rage in Virginia.
Fairfax County police spokeswoman Shelley Broderick says Haynesworth is accused of simple assault in a Wednesday morning incident, reports CBS affiliate WUSA.
A 38-year-old man driving a Honda Civic on the Fairfax County Parkway noticed a pickup truck reportedly tailgating him and made a "non verbal hand gesture" to the driver. He says the man in the truck later followed him to a traffic light, approached his car, punched him in the nose and then took off.
Broderick says police have been in touch with Haynesworth's attorney, and arrangements have been made for him to meet with officers and appear in Fairfax County General District Court next week, because he is currently out of town.
However, the football player's agent, Chad Speck, has reportedly said the allegations are false, and his client was never contacted by police or prosecutors.
Redskins Senior Vice President Tony Willie says they are gathering information and will refrain from comment.
