FarmVille Playing Mom Admits She Killed Infant Who Interrupted Facebook Game

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) Alexandra Tobias, a Florida mother accused of shaking her 3-month-old son to death after he interrupted her FarmVille game on Facebook, has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

The 22-year-old was charged in the January death of her baby, Dylan Lee Edmondson.

She entered her plea on Wednesday.

Tobias told investigators she became angry after the baby cried while she was playing the computer farm simulation game, and she shook him.

She also said she smoked a cigarette to compose herself and then shook the baby again, at which time he may have hit his head, the station reported.

State guidelines call for 25 to 50 years in prison, but a prosecutor said Tobias' sentence could be shorter than that.

I think this is why I admire non-human primates so much. I'm serious. Gorillas, for example, are huge; they can rip a human apart in the blink of an eye if they wanted to. They will use the utmost gentleness with their babies. Same with chimps and other apes, monkeys, etc. We humans are not the smartest creatures on the planet, as we'd like to believe. I hear parents screaming obscenities at their kids, slapping them around; buying smokes before buying their kids clothes, etc., and I cringe. Some facets of our society have gone straight to h3ll.

by Mathion June 13, 2013 6:37 PM EDT: The PROBLEM, you see, is that in the wild, the unfit do not survive. There are dangers in the wild which require vigilance, and those who are inattentive, who sit at video games and don't watch or properly care for their offspring (figuratively speaking) have their offspring die. Their unfit genes don't propagate.

But HUMANS preserve the weak - a direct conflict with natural selection. Not only that, we allow the weak and unfit to breed. With modern medicine, this is taken to a ridiculous degree, saving those who would otherwise have died without those super-human, heroic - and unnatural - efforts.

Yes, we consider this "humane", but we don't see the ramifications because evolution is slow. Fitness in humans is based primarily on intelligence and adaptability. A recent report noted that it's possible Westerners have DROPPED 14 IQ points on average since the Victorian era (roughly 1885). The stagnation of political ideology and religious dogma shows that we are becoming much less adaptable.

We let the unfit breed and the consequences are beginning to show even more every day. It will be the undoing of mankind. Those some facets of society going straight to hell will eventually become all facets going there, hand-baskets not even needed.

by bvg_12 June 13, 2013 8:59 AM EDT: Am i the only one that thinks she looks like she could be the daughter of Brenda Heist, the Pa. mom who disappeared in 2002? The look alike and have similar thinking in what mother should "be like". Also looks like she uses drugs.

All social network games suck horribly, and until gaming companies realize that they were only popular 2 years ago for people who were just too crappy at real games, those companies will never do well.
Minecraft (another game for people who can't play games that take skill) has taken over **** SN games, thankfully. At least it requires thinking.; Reply to this comment
