NEW YORK (CBS) Gawker sports blog Deadspin is reporting that they have received what they consider to be audio and photographic proof that Vikings Quarterback Brett Favre sent naked pictures to Jenn Sterger, a sports reporter who was employed by the New York Jets when Favre played there.

What are the legal ramifications for Favre and the Jets?

According to CBS News legal analyst Trent Copeland, the odds of a civil lawsuit against Favre and the Jets are low.

Thus far, Sterger has been reluctant to speak about the incident, and there is no indication that she plans on suing Favre or the Jets.

If she were to bring a suit, Copeland says that in order to win it, Sterger would have to demonstrate three things: First, that the advances were unwanted, that this was a "one way street"; Second, that she complained to the Jets; Third, that the Jets organization did nothing about it.

"There's a lot to establish there," says Copeland.

When asked if Deadspin could get in legal trouble in terms of violating Sterger or Favre's privacy, Copeland said it was unlikely, as Deadspin apparently received the messages from a third party, and once the messages were passed on to a third party "there would be no expectation of privacy."

As for a libel or defamation suit from Favre:

"If it was a hoax and Deadspin knew it was a hoax, or if it was manufactured, and they published it anyway...then Deadspin could be liable," Copeland told Crimesider. "In the case of a well-known figure like Brett Favre, [punitive damages] could come to millions of dollars."

But, he adds, the truth is always a defense in a defamation case.

Ultimately, according to Copeland, the odds of Favre filing a lawsuit against Deadspin for releasing the voicemails and messages are "zero."

"The last thing he wants is a long, drawn out lawsuit to keep this in the public eye," Copeland told Crimesider.

Favre's current team, the Vikings, are set to play the Jets on Monday night. When asked about the allegations at a press conference on Tuesday, Favre responded, "I'm not getting into that."

by vikings010 November 2, 2010 9:54 PM EDT: 1. We do have to look at this from a morally correct position and realize that neither of these people are in the right. Ms. Sterger and Mr. Favre were not making decisions based off of morals and beliefs taught by their parents when they were younger. The situation probably played out when Ms. Sterger provoked Mr. Favre to send those messages, and now years after that encounter Ms. Sterger is attempting to selfishly reap some benefits from the situation. If the two had both made decisions that were morally sound neither of them would be in this negative spotlight.; Reply to this comment

He'd be stupid if he tried since the photos are verified through cell phone records. His wife should drop him like a used condom and clean out the bank account...just like Elin Nordegren did.

This girl is after money, she is a slooter to begin with and if he did send her a picture of his donker I am sure she was all for it at the time because she had this planned. Calling him a creepy doosh, yeah like she wouldn't jump on Favre in a second if he gave her the time of day. One word, Maxim. She is a slooter, thoughts are with you Brett.

By the looks of all her photos, she' thinks she's hot and she probably flirted with him in order for him to get her phone number etc. Just your typical trashy type girl looking for attention. A decent person would have deleted the stuff and told the guy to buzz off and that would be the end of it. People's morals and values are so mixed up lately.

Really!!!!!!!!!!!! Can we just enjoy a season of football!!! I'm a woman and I don't even believe the "load of crap and BS" that has surfaced. So why did Jenn and her sidekicks wait so long to bring the "facts" to the public....I'll tell you why.....she decided she needs some money to make a few more "enhancements" [hopefully a brain transplant is on the list!!] and to revitialize hers career [which one I'm not sure!!!!!!!!!]. Personally I think this was started by someone in or around the area of the JETS organization because they didn't think they could beat the Vikings fair and square.

Why don't we have a confession from Jenn Sterger herself? If she is the one who shared the story with a deadspin.com journalist, then why isn't she backing the story up? 4. I agree with the timing, it is ridiculous that this was released a few days before Brett Favre is back in in NY.
