Amanda Knox to Star in Prison Christmas Show, Has an "Incredible Voice" Says Director

NEW YORK (CBS) Amanda Knox has been cast as the lead in her Italian prison's planned Christmas show - and the director calls her a "formidable soprano," saying it was a "pleasant surprise" when he first heard her voice, according to a report.

This news may not please the family of British exchange student Meredith Kercher, for whose murder Knox is currently serving a 26-year sentence. Kercher's partially nude body, her throat slit, was found in a pool of blood on Nov. 2, 2007, in the apartment she shared with Knox in Perugia.

Music has apparently played a prominent role in Knox's incarceration. In letters to her ex-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, who is also serving time for Kercher's murder, she told him "music is what saves me, that's what helps get me through prison," according to the Daily Mail.

The American exchange student is due in court next month for the continuing slander case brought against her by the Perugia police department for her claims that she was beaten and intimidated into giving her confession shortly after Kercher's body was found.

Knox's appeal on her conviction is expected to be heard in November; her attorneys have said they will argue that the DNA evidence presented at her trial was flawed.

A story that is of interest because of the profound concern that two young people have been unjustly sent to prison. I won't argue about the "sickness" of the media. But realize that we readers are but a reflection of the media.

The isolation of prison and abuse by the Italians must be terrible and yet she does not show rage. She is entitled to rage but it is not part of her make-up. In fact, her idea of retribution is to change her own hairstyle. A subtle and cerebral response. Shows me a certain lack of violence and a ton of doubt about her involvement.

If it were me over there in an Italian prison for three years for a crime I did not commit, I would have become one very angry, nasty person by now. But Amanda just takes it so calmly, sweetly and patiently. She comforts herself with her music, her prayers, and her studies. Amanda is called a "model prisoner" by the wardens at Capenne Prison in Italy. But I think a more accurate description is a "model Christian."

Amanda finds strength in music because she has a beautiful soul to go along with her beautiful voice. The suffering of this girl, Raffaelle Sollecito, and their families has been horrific. The anguish of being unjustly accused is intense, and it is time for the US government to step in to bring Amanda home.; Reply to this comment

I do believe her behavior in prison and during her trial indicates she is not of the character she has been portrayed in the Italian media as possessing, and that this is a sign she may not be capable of such a crime.; Reply to this comment
