Miami Heat Forward Udonis Haslem Arrested on Drug Charges

Udonis Haslem (Miami-Dade Corrections/CBS)

MIAMI (CBS/WFOR) Miami Heat forward Udonis Haslem was arrested late Sunday afternoon following a traffic stop.

The 30-year-old NBA player was originally pulled over for speeding and illegal window tint; however, the arresting officer said it was clear once he approached the vehicle that there was something else going on behind the doors of Haslem's Mercedes.

According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) spokesman Sgt. Mark Wysocky, in addition to the traffic violations, both Haslem and his passenger Antwain Fleming were arrested and charged for possession of marijuana.

Haslem was charged with one count of possessing more than 20 grams of marijuana, 4 counts of possessing drug paraphernalia with intent to use, and was cited by the FHP for speeding, and for having illegal window tinting on his car, reports CBS affiliate WFOR.

Sources told TMZ that in addition to Fleming there were three other people in the car at the time of the traffic stop and also, that it took three searches for police and the drug dogs to discover the marijuana.

Haslem, who has spent seven years with the Heat, was taken to the Miami-Dade County Jail and released Sunday evening after posting a $10,000 bail.

It's hard to believe that we're still letting the government ruin people's lives over a little marijuana.

I think one of the best things we can do right now is work on voter registration so that people will be ready to vote in November (they?ve got to register now, this summer, in order to vote in November). People can google their state name and ?voter registration? to find their own state?s voter registration process.

Some info for California:

Just take the spaces out of the h t t p s:// w w w part in order to activate the URL. The link will take you to a voter registration form that you can print and mail.

California citizens can vote by mail:

Read about voting while in college in California:

Let?s keep spreading the word and get out the VOTE!

What a bunch of bull. I thought the gubermint said that individuals are not arrested for simple cannabis possession. Once again our drug warriors lie and are at it again.

What a waste of money but heck we don't need education do we. Let's spend all our money on the failed war on people that the us gubermint has waged for the past 35 years. Another republican failing war.
