An Arizona driver's license that belonged to a friend of Sousa's and was stolen during the incident that left Sousa dead was found in a U.S. Postal Service mailbox in the Phoenix area, investigators said.
The 21-year-old Sousa was outside a restaurant near the Arizona State University campus on May 26 when a heavy-set man in a newer model silver Chrysler 300 attempted to steal her purse, say police.
Sousa apparently became entangled in the purse's strap and was dragged by the car for several feet before her head hit the pavement.
She died days later from the injuries.
Police say they have several witnesses to the early-morning attack, but only a vague description of the driver.
According to CBS affiliate KPHO, investigators say they believe others were in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
Investigators are asking anyone who placed a driver's license in a U.S. Postal Service mailbox between May 26 and June 20 to call the Tempe Police Department at 480-350-8311 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
