Van der Sloot Update: Where is Stephany Flores' $11,000?

NEW YORK (CBS) Police sources in Peru have disclosed to CBS News that Stephany Flores, Joran van der Sloot's alleged Peruvian murder victim, had won approximately $10,000 at casinos in the week leading up to her death and also had been given $1,000 from her father to purchase a laptop that she never got a chance to buy.

But police sources say that this money has never been found.

Flores reportedly kept her money in the glove compartment of her car. Police documents dated June 3 obtained by CBS News show the results of the search of Stephany Flores' car: no money was found in it.

Did Joran van der Sloot take that money?

The sources say that this was the true motive for the brutal murder of Flores: van der Sloot was after her money. Police say this means that van der Sloot's alleged murder of Flores was premeditated.

But in van der Sloot's confession - which he subsequently recanted in a Dutch newspaper - police say he told them that he became enraged after Flores found information on his laptop about his links to the disappearance of American teenager Natalee Holloway.

According to Peruvian newspaper La Republica, van der Sloot told police, "I did not want to do it. The girl intruded into my private life. She had no right. I went to her and I hit her. She was scared. We argued and she tried to escape. I grabbed her by the neck and I hit her."

Crimesider spoke with ex-FBI agent Paul Lindsay, who worked for many years investigating serial killers. Lindsay believes that if reports of van der Sloot's confession are accurate, van der Sloot created the story of the e-mail and the confrontation as a way to justify his actions.

Police say he smashed in the face of Flores, the student he met playing poker before leading her back to his hotel room. According to police, van der Sloot then strangled her, threw her to the floor and emptied her wallet.

Stephany Flores' death occurred exactly five years after Alabama teen Natalee Holloway disappeared in Aruba, a case which van der Sloot is the main suspect. The Dutchman faces charges of first-degree murder and robbery for the May 30 death of Stephany Flores.

Explicit crime scene photos were previously obtained exclusively by 48 Hours | Mystery from sources close to the investigation and published exclusively by Crimesider. They show a severely beaten Flores, her body badly bruised, her clothes stained with blood.

I am not sure what I believe anymore. First the Twitty's show up in Aruba earlier than what they state to the media, then Natalie is in a crack house, then all the lies fron VDS, then the Jug Twitty accuastions..etc. Oh, forgot the sex slave accusations, gambling and pyschotic issues, DNA in fingernails never reported on findings, missing money, corrupt officials both in Aruba and Peru, the daddy lawyer/judge who got the devils payback for selling his soul, etc. But, what about the trip to Aruba and where were all the chaperones? Where were her so called frieds letting her get into the car with 3 unknown boys. Also, video tapes can be manipulated. How about the extorion charges...etc. This whole story line is like a sopa opera. When are we going to hear the truth? No doubt this boy is a sleeze bag, but, innocent till proven guilty. That's the legal system. Besides, this scum bag surely makes it habit of messing with girls who have very powerful parents....got to be a money thing initially. His mother may be right, this scum is sic in the head...but also a gambling problem child from living a easy life in Aruba. His parents created this monster. Also, young girls go missing all the time, every day, very sad but only the rich can make issue with it...there precious daughters...how about all the others? Are they any less important becasue their parents don't have money? Honestly, I can't believe this scum bag is still alive after all the game she has played. Unbelievable and it just keeps getting more ridiculous...even the National Enquirer is involved...now there is a reputable source of news!

I also think he killed Jimmy Hoffa, and the Lindinburgh baby, maybe even something to do with Emila's plane gomg down. Come On, this guy is probably guilty, but they just keep adding stuff that just does not add up. Think those folks in Peru are as crooked as a Baptist minster.

Yeah, what happened to the DNA evidence, and where is this missing money. The Dude was broke. I am not defending Van der Sloot, but I would not trust those cops for all the tea in China.

I don't doubt JvdS killed Stephany...but....
To many different conflicting storys. Facts and questions are; we haven't seen the whole "hallway-movie" ;camera's are easily manipulated to make it seem they are recording current time ;JvdS went to Peru on FBI money, was invited by an FBI-officer to play at the tournament ;even JvdS wouldn't be so stupid to put the room on his name if he was planning a murder. Propably he flipped out on drugs and due to his temper and spoiled personality he went completely over the top in his agression.
After he left the tv was on (loud) and nobody came to check for days. They had seen Stephany come in as well, so I don't believe it went down like this. Knowing the one who rented the room had left this isn't logical. Why was Stephany's body moved? Who moved it? (photo's crimescene clearly show she has been moved) Is it possible that the hotelmanager went in, found the body, found the money, took the money and waited for the right oppertunity to finally "find" the body? Why was Stephany wearing the blouse while JvdS would have sufficated her with it? Why was she wearing most of her jewelry while they said it was al stolen. Why change it to just earrings etc?
JvdS was a stranger in Peru. Would never take the risk to go out on the street and ask a complete stranger to get him some dope. What is true about the story that Stephany was dealing drugs and is that explaining why they went to his room?
Why was daddy Flores immideately ready to present JvdS's picture, shortly after her body was discovered?
So, he did it I'm sure, but with all this above I really wonder what the real (and complete) story is.
And created oppertunity or not; for killing Stephany he should get a lifesentence

Oh...and I'm Dutch and don't blame JvdS for loosing the Worldcup;-) Another stupid made up story (with photoshopped picture of JvdS on big screen in arena)I just found. We are ashamed of JvdS and all think he should be punished according to his crimes. Aka; never get out.

Gee, if I had that kind of money, I'd hide it pretty well, not stick it in the glove compartment. I'll bet Flores hid it in a nice hiding place somewhere.

Peruvian police logic. The money was actually stolen from the hotel room, but they wanted to distance themselves from any connection to the hotel (that was, after all, where the hit went down) so they make up a story that she kept 11,000 dollars in her glove compartment. You wouldn't even do that in a civilized country, let alone Peru.

It's upsurd that anyone with a micron of aptitude would suggest that Joran was inocent...or set up. Obviously, people who make such post have nothing better to do than try to insult posters that make worthy comments. Take a good look at what you are implying - or are you that ignorant. I believe it must be both.

the Peruvian police and stefanie?s father tell lies, jvds couldnt steal $ 11 000 to stefanie, because he did not have enought money to pay the taxi that took to Chile, jvds only had $500 and like he had no cash, he had to pay taxi with his watch and camera.
but stefanie?s father has a lot of influence and power in peru and he is making it impossible for that police acuse of stealing to jvds, and only for one reason, because in Peru, when the motive of murder is stealing , the sentence is life imprisonment and that's what stefanie?s father want to vds.
I think that trial wont be fair nor transparent for vds.

Yes, and why was he phoning his ex-girlfriend after leaving Peru, asking for money to travel home? Something is really wrong with this case.

Soon, real soon, this moron will have no teeth left to fight the law or the desires of his fellow inmates. Then the families can have some solace knowing that he is getting his turn to suffer. A death penalty sentence would have been merciful, but he doesn't deserve mercy.
