Nun Struck and Killed By Speeding Getaway Car, Two Others Critically Injured, Say NYC Cops
Sister Mary Celine Graham (WCBS)
When police tried to make the bust, the getaway vehicle sped off and careened down a couple blocks before it collided with another vehicle, spun off, and struck four innocent bystanders.
Three of the victims remain hospitalized; however, one of them was not as blessed - 84-year-old Harlem nun, sister Mary Celine Graham, was killed.
Police have charged 20-year-old Dyson Williams with second-degree murder and robbery. His alleged accomplice, 18-year-old William Robbins, was arrested prior to the accident and faces armed robbery charges for the mugging.
The deadly crash occurred Tuesday morning after police identified a vehicle that was believed to be driven by three suspects who robbed 21-year-old Columbia Law graduate Krishan Thakker of his backpack at gunpoint, while he was on his way home from a bar-exam class, reports The New York Post.
Once police found the vehicle they arrested the driver. However, the situation escalated when the passenger decided to take matters into his own hands, grabbed the wheel, and sped off with the other suspect.
They made it a few blocks before they slammed into another minivan, as well as a crowd of people, critically injuring two and killing Sister Mary Celine Graham.
Ever since the accident, Thakker has been replaying the incident in his head and wonders if he could have done anything differently.
"If I'd decided to leave five minutes early or five minutes later, it could have changed the course of events," Thakker told The New York Post.
