Anne Hathaway's Jewelry to be Sold to the Highest Bidder, Says Report

NEW YORK (CBS) Two years ago the nation witnessed the public breakup of Hollywood sweetheart Anne Hathaway and her then fiance - Italian con artist, Raffaello Follieri.

Instead of indulging in the sweet vengeance of the "break-up ritual" - shredding, mangling, and burning whatever's left after a soured romance - all remnants of her relationship's past must now be handed over to the one and only Uncle Sam.

According to RadarOnline.com, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District issued a motion May 13 demanding that all personal items - Rolex watches, bejeweled rings and opulent necklaces - from Hathaway's ex-beau be permanently surrendered to the United States government.

In June 2008, Follieri was arrested on fraud charges for allegedly swindling investors out of millions of dollars, states the gossip site.

Follieri pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison in Oct. 2008. In addition, a $2,440,000 judgment was pinned against the swindler, and as a result the government is requesting the right to sell the seized items, said RadarOnline.com. Translation: Hathaway's lavish gifts will most likely be auctioned to the highest bidder.

According to Radar, court papers state that the government cataloged all Hathaway's items online for 30 days beginning Dec. 12, allowing her the right to appeal. Hathaway declined.

Apparently, tainted jewelry isn't her style.
