PORTLAND, Ore. (CBS/KOIN) Classes resumed Monday amid extra security at an Oregon elementary school as the FBI joined in the search for 7-year-old Kyron Horman, who disappeared after a school science fair.

PICTURES: Kyron Horman Missing

Kyron and his stepmother, Terri Moulton Horman were together early Friday at Skyline Elementary School, which is a few miles from their house.

She took him around the school to look at various science fair projects. The stepmother says that at about 8:45 a.m., she left and saw Kyron apparently walking toward his classroom.

At the end of the school day, when his father and stepmother did not find him getting off the school bus at 3:45, they called the school.

That's when they found out that Kyron had not been in class all day long. They had not been informed, during the day, that Kyron had not been in class.

Portland Public Schools sent out automated telephone alerts to parents, asking them to keep an eye out for the Kyron.

Sheriff Dan Staton said late Sunday that he was "not prepared" to call the boy's disappearance a kidnapping.

Though counselors and extra security will be at Skyline, Portland Public Schools spokesman Matt Shelby says the district aims to run as "normal of a day as possible."

Anyone with information on Kyron's whereabouts is urged to call the Multhnomah County Sheriff's Office tip line at (503)-261-2847.

Kyron is alive, please everyone stop talking about him in any other manner. He is alive and has been abducted, please focus on that and less on judgements. Let's find Kyron and bring him home first and foremost. Please stay positive, he is alive and well.

I heard one of the reporters say that Terri hoped to go the gym later that day. I thought it was quite odd that a mom/step-mom would even think of going to the gym while her child is missing!
And today when the biological mom and step dad and the step mom and biological dad were at the school talking to the public, I noticed the biological mom's heart seemed to be shattered, her tears were real while on the other hand Terri tried to put on a good act but there were no real tears! And she has raised this little boy from the time he was an infant? It's so very strange!

Terry is a sick person, you go to the gym Terri because Lord knows that's the most important thing to a selfish, self centered vain and disgusting person like you. You don't deserve the air you breathe, tell the truth Terri...tell the truth it will set you free. You cannot go on with this facade, you and your friend are wearing down Terri, it will only get worst. You cannot and will not get away with this Terri. Just hand the boy over to the authorities or drop him off at a hospital and run if that's what you choose to do, but give that little boy back to his real parents! He is not a possession, and you can do so much mental damage to him. Don't use that precious little boy as a tool to get revenge because you are heartbroken Terri. Do the right thing.

Its wierd that nobody saw him at the school. I live in the area and to me I find it very odd he is just a missing person. Maybe they already suspect the step-mom IDK, but isn't it wierd that Terri put on her FB that she was going to the gym? She should be worried about poor little Kyron, the gym should be the last thing on her mind. Also why havent they released a statement? If that was my son the World would recognize my face. I would be all over the media. Another thing is she put on her FB that she ordered flyers for him. Why wouldnt she make them herself and put them up? The neighborhood has, where are they while the whole neighborhood searches for their son??? Something is fishy...

WHAT IF Kyron Horman's stepmom did something BEFORE--not after Friday morning's science fair--and those who happened to see her SO EARLY just assumed Kyron was with her and running around? Then the pic she took at the Science Fair early in the a.m. was doctored to add Kyron in? In other words, after she (who has "CSI & DEXTER" listed as her fave shows on Facebook) took in Kyron's backpack to the class, told the teacher (as the teacher has attested to, but stepmom DENIED) that Kyron was leaving with her for an appt. That way, no one is going to be looking for Kyron all day. TOOK A PICTURE OF THE PROJECT WITHOUT Kyron standing in front of it--LEFT ALONE (just as she came ALONE) and went home and got on the computer, taking a pic of Kyron she already had and superimposing it over the project pic?? Later, she assured police she told the teacher Kyron had an appointment NEXT WEEK. EITHER WAY--if he was there and standing in front of the project or not, it was the stepmom. She probably told Kyron to go to the door near the classroom, and she picked him up there so no one saw him leave the safety of the school.

Very interesting comment. I was also curious as to why, if there were so many visitors to the school, no one else is in the background of the picture?? (no students at their project, no parents, etc).

ooooh. That's a good one. I did read somewhere that it was said that one of the teachers along with his mother helped him set up the project, it says they worked hard on setting it up. I was thinking that the picture was taken the night before the science fair, but apparently the science fair was set up that morning before school. So the picture with the man and the little girl were probably taken in the morning, while setting up the project.

I woke-up at 3:30 this morning and couldn't go back to sleep. All I could do was pray and think of ways to bring this little boy home safe and not harmed. Could Kyron have been curious after looking at the science fair and went off to discover something new, maybe another science project? Maybe he wedged under the school house in discovery of something new? Could he have fallen into an old water well on the school property or possibly an old tree well? The area is heavily forested...I can't believe he was abducted by a stranger without someone hearing something. School security needs to be tightened up, now more than ever. What happened to the days when your parent's were called when you were missing from class. Do they take roll-call anymore? How sad that this little boy fell victim to poor monitoring.

I cried last night about Kyron, this little boy could be my five year old son.
Portland School Districts are not the only unsafe schools for our children. My son attends an elementary in Lake O. He has been "lost" twice by his kindergarten teacher and just today, was escorted by the schools cook to aftercare. The cook? Where was his teacher? This is not a article of clothing or pet...this is my SON. A God given gift to me that I have loved and raised for 5 years. I don't blame the parents of Skyline for taking their children out of school since this happened. Apparently it's okay to pawn our babies off on the cafeteria staff now.
What's next?
Lord, keep Kyron safe wherever he is and put Your protection on ALL of our children every second of the day. Amen

Portland Public Schools needs to make policies to ensure child safety. As of last week, they pretty much have no policy.

I have been writing letters to the superintendent of PPS since last MARCH complaining of child endangerment at the public school near where we live. My complaints got passed along and I got a couple emails saying they'd look into it...if they did, they didn't get back to me on it and when I wrote again, my email is STILL unanswered.

It's horrible that something this tragic has to happen before busy school administrators start paying attention.

Kyron disappeard and nobody knew it for HOURS because nobody verified his absence. My grandson was thrown out on the STREET at 8 in the AM in the RAIN when he was 10 and no parent was called. When mom made a fuss, the principal apologized to him and wanted to 'pretend yesterday never happened'. We let it go. THEN it happened again this year. This time they called and left a message on Dad's answering machine. When Dad went to the school, the principal did not know where the child was. She 'assumed' he'd walked to my house.

But, bottom line...the parent dropped the child off at school, if the school turned him out on the streets and didn't report it to anybody, our grandson, save by the Grace of God could have also been 'missing'. Prayers for Kyron's SAFE return. My heart just breaks.

Schools need to pay more attention to doing the job they are hired to do - TEACH KIDS and see that they are SAFE - instead of worrying about covering their own jobs and countng the days until their retirement.
