Anita van der Sloot: Suspected Killer's Mom Shocked by New Allegations in Stephany Flores Murder

NEW YORK (CBS) Anita van der Sloot is "shocked" by the latest allegations against her son, Joran van der Sloot, in connection with yet another young woman's death, according to the family's lawyer Bert de Rooij.

De Rooij says that Anita van der Sloot spoke to her son via telephone Thursday but would not give details about the conversation except to say that Joran "certainly did not" confess to killing 21-year-old Stephany Flores, according to the Dutch News.

The young woman's body was found in a Lima hotel room in a pool of blood. The room was registered to Joran van der Sloot, according to Peruvian newspaper El Comercio.

"I am advising him to find a lawyer who knows something about laws affecting foreigners in South American," de Rooij told Dutch radio station Radio I.

Joran van der Sloot was detained in a taxi Thursday in Chile after crossing the border from Peru, where authorities say the 22-year-old man is the prime suspect in Flores' murder.

Police believe van der Sloot met the University of Lima business student the night before her death at a local casino. Her body was found by a hotel maid late Tuesday, her neck snapped, according to Peruvian police.

The same day he was arrested in Chile, Van der Sloot was also charged in Alabama with trying to extort $250,000 in connection with the disappearance of Natalee Holloway.

The 17-year-old American student vanished in 2005 during an Aruba vacation. Van der Sloot has long been the primary suspect, but Aruban prosecutors felt they didn't have the goods to charge him.

In the Alabama charges, van der Sloot is accused of trying to sell information about the location of Holloway's body and the circumstances of her death. Federal prosecutors say van der Sloot already took $15,000 on the deal, but did not name a victim.

Authorities plan to fly van der Sloot, who is currently in Chilean custody, back to the Peruvian border Friday morning, according to a Chilean police spokesman who spoke on condition that he not be named in line with department policy.

On paper, since 2005, Joran sounds like he is mentally disordered. The symptoms reported/observed are: a flattened affect (stoic)few expressive gestures, lying, impaired relationships, unforthcoming and uncommuncative, detached, distant, a seeming lack of conscience.

The path to becoming a sociopath, begins in early childhood as being 1) "oppositionally defiant", thumbing his nose at figures in authority (i.e. parents, teachers, police). Parents must "nip" this behaviour in the bud between 6 and 11ish, at all costs. Society is very forgiving at this stage, and seeks to provide parents with whatever they need to manage the behaviour. If it isn't stopped, the behaviour moves into becoming 2) "conduct disordered", 12ish through to the age of majority. This can start off mild and may progress to severe. Here society-at-large is still concerned up to a point, and programs exist that emulate military-style basic training where the child can be sent for re-programming and re-training. But society is beginning to lose its patience, as the adolescent-child becomes more and more unmanage-able in the "public Square". If the behaviour is not "nipped" in the bud during childhood, nor brought under management during the adolescent years, at the age of majority, as the out-of-control behaviour violates more and more societal norms/laws, society loses it's patience the person, and finally throws the book at the person. At this point, it called an 3) "anti-social personality disorder". Judges and courts have limited options at this point in time and the solution is either incarceration in a mental institution, OR incarceration in jail. Usually for life.

* Anti-social personality disorder usually presents when someone was sexually abused/ molested as a child or not ?
* ASPD in kids often presents with cruelty to animals.
* ASPD in adults can sometimes be recognized by some odd habits, such as eye contact that remains too intense for too long, appeals to pity, making statements of need rather than direct questions for actions or help, shallow reason or thinking, a disbelief that the 'rules' of any sort apply to them, lying for sport or no apparent reason.
You seem educated on this topic, just wonder how many more details you could provide. thanks

by pocahontasgirl June 14, 2010 4:01 PM EDT: I think that joran did many bad things como:killed girls, to be compulsive gambler , addict to the drugs and the alcohol, but I think that with a psychiatric treatment and the company of his mother he could be to change. Because he is a very handsome boy and for having turned his way aside does not mean that it goes to lose his life in a jail. And to continue in this abyss of drugs, games and alcohol in which this one. i think that it was terrible the way in that he was treated in peru. this one achieves that it deteriorates, and till now be afraid that they kill him in that jail. i wanted to say to the mrs. anita who should have force and trust , because it is going to need a lot of force to accompany his son in this test that is going to be to be in the jail several years. i will like to be able to help but not where to contact her.if someone knows it tell me it .; Reply to this comment


by cc7195 June 14, 2010 1:37 PM EDT: Joran had already hurt his brother and the parents did nothing, there were reports of his drugging and raping other women and the parents did nothing (dad probably said atta boy!), he killed and they covered it up, he killed again. The mother will follow the same pattern, deny, cover it up or deny again. This time I hope that won't work. This time I hope he has to face up to what he did and pay the price, but I doubt it he is already lying and will in all probability continue to lie. by alihendrick1983 June 13, 2010 1:46 PM EDT: wow...you completely invalidated your comments with that last statement...you scathe everyone on here for giving negative commentary on the worthless van der sloots and claim they are not good christians (what makes you think everyone is christian by the way), while you quip "i hope you rot in hell"?? you sound like you are a van der sloot family member of some sort, i just don't know who in their right mind would respond like that . if you are indeed a practicing "christian", then i suggest you reevaluate your own behavior and perhaps seek counseling on understanding your religion properly. but otherwise, go **** yourself you trailer park scum, ad wake the **** up- joran vd sloot killed at least two girls and his parents have helped him get away with it thus far. not any more.

The fact that Van der Sloot asked to see his mother may mean that he feels helpless. He should be allowed some contact with his mother intermittently.

I believe he has issues which need to be cut down slowly until the root is reached. Can the law prove to be better at guiding the criminals who reach their hands when it is too late for parents to do so? In some ways, minus his actions...he may be similar to other people with anger/insecurity issues. I still see a boy right there.

You, your husband (who is probably in h**), the so called chief of police of Aruba Vanderscum and the entire Aruban government are the reason Stephany is dead. Had you been more forthcoming, accepted the fact Joran is extremely disturbed and that he raped and brually murdered Natalee and made him accept responsibility for all of his actions rather than cover them up, Stephany would still be with her family, Natalee and her family would have justice and your son would be playing cards with the guards in the Aruban prison for probably 10 years where you could visit him daily. Just remember that. Hopefully, the Peruvian prison system will give him what he gave Natalee and Stephany. We can only hope.; Reply to this comment
