NEW YORK (CBS) Aruban prosecutor Peter Blanken, who has been part of the investigation into the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, has learned that Joran van der Sloot is now a suspect in a new murder, that of a 21-year-old woman whose body was found in a hotel room in Lima, Peru. The prosecutor told CBS News that the allegation was a remarkable development and says that he is personally shocked by it.

Early Wednesday morning, Stephany Flores Ramirez was found dead, Peruvian newspaper El Comercio reports, in a hotel room registered under van der Sloot's name. According to police reports, Ramirez had been brutally stabbed and was found wrapped in a blanket in a pool of blood.

Chief of detectives Col. Miguel Canlla says that Stephany was murdered on Sunday, and the girl's father, Ricardo Flores, says van der Sloot appears with his daughter in video taken at a Lima casino early Sunday.

Aruban Prosecutor Peter Blanken said that an Interpol international arrest warrant has been issued for van der Sloot, who may, according to some reports, be on the run from police. The Dutch Foreign Affairs Department in the Netherlands has notified their people in Chile to be aware that Joran may be in Chile.

Five years ago, in May 2005, Alabama high school student Natalee Holloway disappeared during a senior class trip to Aruba. She was last seen leaving a bar with Joran van der Sloot. Van der Sloot has been detained several times, but never charged.

According to Blanken, he is examining the new details but does not expect it to affect the Holloway case or provide new evidence. He says that they will be contacting the Peruvian authorities later today to see if they can offer assistance.

I no longer think, as I did before, that Natalie Holloway's fate was determined by her lack of experience with alcohol or night life. Neither does it look anymore that this guy is a sociopathic sexual deviant, or someone who got into trouble because he got drunk. It now seems much more likely that this guy is a career international criminal who killed both Natalie and this recent victim in the course of his criminal activities, probably involving sex slavery or whatever it is called. If so, these two girls are probably only two of a number of otherwise nameless victims. So it may simply be that he got careless and picked girls with connections in both cases who had enough influence to stir the authorities into action, but these slip-ups were 5 years apart. We must shudder to think what damage he could have caused or done to how many hapless victims in the interim.

Joran is just as guilty in this murder of Stephanie as he is of the murder of Natalie Holloway. The Aruban authorities or the person responsible for the release of Joran in Aruba should share in the responsibility for the murder of Stephanie, that is the way I feel, but our world just does not work this way does it? I wonder if there is any self accountability any more it sure does not seem like it! people kill and act as if it is there right to take another persons life as if it meant nothing. The Bible says an eye for an eye, Joran (as far as we know) owes both eyes or two lives if you will, HANG THE MAN

The Bible also says not to judge anyone. maybe you should educate yourself a bit before giving comments on aruban authorities/laws. try to study the laws which orginate from the Netherlands which is common to the European law. If you dont catch us in the act, it 'aint no fact!

According to the reports, Joran van der sloot original comments on the first day of Natalie's disappearance was that they took her out to the lighthouse because she wanted to see sharks. Part of that story could be true, in which case, they dumped her body into the shark water. They may have given the drunk woman a date rape pill, she may have gone into a coma, they raped her and dumped her. I think her body or some remains may be at that lighthouse.

There is video of him going into the room with Stephany, and video of him leaving. I'm assuming they don't have video of other people entering or exiting the room, so that leaves HIM that did this horrific murder. There is no way that this is coincidence, that this "poor" guy has been hit by lightening two times. He is a sexual psychopath, he killed her heinously and most likely did the same thing to Natalie Holloway. In this case, the Peruvian justice system will find him guilty and he will be shipped off to Lurigancho and forgotten for 3 years, after which time, someone there will murder him.

People, Let us not rush to judgment. Is it not possible, as many in Aruba still maintain, that Joran Van Der Sloot is a two-time victim of circumstance, and a good kid with bad luck following him like wet toilet paper stuck to his (bloody) flip-flops? What if the whole thing in Peru was another terrible accident involving a date rape drug and a game of Twister in his hotel room gone horribly wrong? What if it was someone else who did it, like O.J., or maybe those Surinamese Kalpoe brothers, or even the Jonas Brothers? Who has even bothered to ask their whereabouts on the day in question? These are things that typically only defense attorneys think of while they are busy counting their money, but every citizen should in fact consider. I for one dont trust conjoint twins from countries I cannot find on the map. Plus, you have to give this guy credit for his entrepreneurial creativity. He is somebody who is always trying to get people (and journalists) to part with their money and, possibly, to get people into body parts. Let's aspire to be more like the Aruban authorities and their system of government which goes by the inspiring motto: If you dont catch us in the act, it 'aint no fact!

He needs some good ol' Alabama justice. His wire fraud and extortion charge served in an Alabama prison will be harsher than his time in Peru.

No way, it wont be harsher. Do you know ANYTHING about Peruvian jails? I'm sorry to say this but you guys in the united states treat your jail interns too nicely..they have way too many benefits. Here in Peru jail (specially life sentence) is worse than death sentence...MUCH worse. Lurigancho (specifically) is one of the worst jails in the world and it's not that i'm proud of our system but in this specific case I am because this monster deserves it.

Anyone who is shocked to hear this sociopath killed again needs to have their head examined.

I'm sure these aren't the only 2 women, either. Sociopaths like this kill kill kill... he's only gotten "caught" twice.

I hope his parents realize how their ignorance and unwillingness to accept that he was guilty in Halloway's death, have now cost another life... maybe more. Shame on them.

The prosector did not botch the investigation. He refused to investigate because of the boy's fmaily and their connections. Now they want to be all shocked and claim they did not know he was a killer. I doubt very much the prosecutor did not know that. He just did not want to arrest a scion of a prominate socity member. Noe the little jerk has killed another woman and he did it on the same day that Natalie died. I thinkl we need to find outr where he was on that day going back a decade and look for dead girls killed on that date. I think the man is a serial killer. The original case was thrown away by the Arubans becasue of the young man's family.
What the hell is wrong with the Aruban justicve system that they turn out a killer so he can kill again.
