BEDFORD, N.Y. (CBS/AP) Mary Richardson Kennedy, the wife of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., was arrested Saturday for drunken driving after a police officer saw her run over a curb outside a school in Westchester County, authorities said.

According to police, Kennedy's blood-alcohol level was over the legal limit of 0.08 at 0.11 percent. She had said she was headed to pick people up at a fair.

Police would not comment on whether anyone else was in the car when Kennedy was arrested or if she had a lawyer. There was no phone listing for the Kennedy home.

Police had responded to the Kennedy home twice in the week before the arrest, but no arrests were made, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.. Lt. Jeff Dickan told the paper those visits were unrelated to the drunk driving arrest.

In one visit, Kennedy reported a dispute between children, Dickan said. The other visit resulted in a state domestic incident report, but there were "no crimes committed, no report of assault, no arrests and no need for follow-up," Dickan told the Chronicle.

Mary Richardson Kennedy's husband, Robert Kennedy Jr., is the son of former Sen. Robert Kennedy and nephew of President John F. Kennedy.

by gig76 May 21, 2010 10:42 AM EDT: I run over curbs many times and I'm sober. I can only imagine having a buzz or a few. That being said, too many women today take liberties in drinking and driving to and from school functions. This is an epidemic in America and for why? Are women depressed, frustrated, unhappy, or just like to drink like men like to drink. Unfortunately, women have more fat than men which makes women more vunerable to quicker intox responses than men. If she has any oral prothesis that may have held alcohol in her mouth longer, then she may have a case in her favor. If she had a serum test, then she was .03 percent above the standard law. In other words, she had at least one, one too many drinks or one shot too much.; Reply to this comment

You are entitled not to like him, but at least be aware that many in NY State are very grateful for his efforts with Waterkeepers, the NPO that has literally saved the beautiful rivers and streams of NY State from pestilence. Unlike many other activists, RFK, Jr. like his father, gets work done. He meets his goals. Someday, when U are in a more tolerant frame of mind, I suggest you go hear him speak, and then make up your own mind. As for his wife, that is unfortunate, especially for his kids. She is very troubled, and like many who are disturbed, seems to resent his efforts to get her into treatment. That has been documented. I hope for the sake of her kids, she seperates from marriage and gets healed. She is not the first "political wife" to abuse booze.

Give the lady a break - if anyone has ever been stopped there are a lot of "unautorized" over the top stops an perhaps he saw the Kennedy name and ran - who knows - but let her dry out in peace and take a good lesson don't drink and drive simple rules - when we go out there is always a DD - works everytime plus you can see how idiotic your friends/relatives are and decide to always to the Driver!; Reply to this comment

Maybe those of you who didn't know these facts might find them more interesting than the story:

1) Mrs. Mary Richardson Kennedy is not a politician.
2) George W. Bush was arrested for drunk driving before he became President.

3) Dick Cheney was arrested twice for drunk driving before he became Vice President.

Must be a slow news day!

Just asking. When Ted K. died, how much tax was paid ?

CBS - is it true that there is an off shore Tax dodge in FIJI as reported so these Liberals pay next to nothing, but the rest of us poor shlubs pay and pay.
