Branding Your Kids (Literally): Father Puts Family Stamp on Teenage Boys

Letters "SK" for "Seamands' Kids" (CBS)

PORT ANGELES, Wash. (CBS/AP) A man accused of branding his three children like cattle is on trial on assault charges in Washington State.

KIRO-TV reports Mark Seamands branded his 13 and 15-year-old sons and 18-year-old daughter with the letters "SK" - for "Seamands' Kids." He's been charged with assaulting the sons but not the daughter because she was old enough to give consent.

Seamands' ex-wife says she was horrified when she saw the scars on the youngest boy's chest, the other boy's arm and the back of the daughter's leg.

The station says the boys are expected to testify in defense of their father because they are proud of their brands. Seamands also is expected to take the stand and show his own brand.

We pay to educate the the children in the schools..The poster who wanted have his/her children chipped has not read 1984..I would not..They used to brand livestock and slaves both white ans black..The man is not playing with a full deck of cards..; Reply to this comment

by eringobra May 13, 2010 4:21 PM EDT: This guy is totally off the charts crazy for doing this to his kids despite their thinking that it's cool to be branded. This is abuse and should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. I am all for making it hard for my kids to be abducted from anywhere but I stop at the line of full-on pyscho. I would however consider putting in a microchip encoded with all of their pertinent information so that if something were to happen (God forbid) I could go online or call the company that made and installed the chip to activate it and be able to get my baby(ies) back in a very small amount of time. If we had that technology available for our kids that we do have for our pets then we would live in a much more comfortable way. The only thing that would be necessary is that the WHO that knows that there is a microchip embedded into your child would need to be a small number of people who are in your everyday life. Minimize the risk of the abducter removing it. I know, I know, sounds just as crazy but at least this suggestion is more helpful than what this guy did.; Reply to this comment

Ah, man, this is something. A tattoo is there for a lifetime, and the one in the picture looks deeply burned in. Probably can't get him for the daughter, but even if the minor boys consented, they do not have that privilege. It would be like saying a young girl "accepted" her father's sexual advances. She's a minor, it's still abuse. I hope he gets a fair trial. If guilty (and I expect he'll be found so) I hope he receives a strict punishment. And he should lose any contact with the children.
