Loose-Lipped Men Accidentally Confess to Multiple Crimes, Make Cops' Jobs Way Easier

NEW YORK (CBS) The NY Post reports that a pair described as "good ol' country boys" needed no prompting to confess their alleged laundry list of crimes to Port Authority cops in New Jersey.

The big-mouthed men, who were visiting New York from Tennessee, were pulled over when officers noticed their 1994 Acura Integra's tinted windows and missing license plate, according to the Post.

When an officer asked the driver for his license, Donald Martin West, 41, also offered up his Tennessee gun permit. West allegedly told the officer, "I got a gun on me," and added it's "in the small of my back," said the paper. Unfortunately for West, a Tennessee gun permit isn't necessarily valid...outside of Tennessee.

West's inability to keep quiet had the cops in hysterics as he freely admitted to having marijuana and pipes in the car, as well as handcuffs, bullets and an extra gun magazine, said the Post.

Police asked the passenger, Tory Davis if he had anything to add.

Davis, 23, allegedly chimed in that he had two "blunts" - meaning marijuana - in the car's ashtray.

I know from experience that in fact Donald Martin West should have never been issued a handgun permit, as he has a domestic assault conviction. He had no business carrying a gun in his back as he does on a daily basis, and is a complete moron for not knowing the firearm laws better than he does. He is an addict and can be very violent, and one can ONLY speculate as to what he would be doing in NJ with some clearly methed-out "dude" having drugs and ammunition in his car. I assure you, it wasn't an innocent little trip. He doesn't even know anyone in NJ or NY. Unfortunately, the legal system is so flawed that he will likely get out of this mess with little to no consequences.

A couple of points:

Unfortunately in the democrat controlled north east all those things can be made into serious crimes. Unbelievably, half of them may be felonies.

BTW: the article doesn't mention if they were mirandized.

Half the things they confessed to, they may not even have known to be crimes. A lot of rural folks believe that a gun permit is valid through out the country. When they show it in neighbouring states they usually don't have a problem.

The standard procedure when you are armed and being approached by an animal in a police uniform is to declare that you have a gun. That's exactly what they did.

In addition to seeing attorneys, they should speak to their state representatives, their town mayor and their governor. Let's hope they don't get railroaded.

This sounds like those nice people at the NY Post making sport of someone. What a seedy bunch of vermin!

They basically asked to be checked in.

Honestly is very appreciated. Spiritually, it is apparently much more important than being generous with resourses. Probably because without it we cannot not seriously note our errors down to the heart of our being; so we might get matters correctly functioning. Generally, today we are driving too fast past each other to have very much depth in relations, however it is implied the it does, or should, exist in such realms of function. Deluding ourselves can play aweful nicely into the hand of those into corruption. Mind altering drugs and driving or guns don't mix.

This story tells us that all smart people lie to the police. If they don't, everyone (even the police) will laugh at them and call them rustics for demonstrating honesty.

They didn't actually do anything wrong. And, I doubt they were a threat to anyone. We need to get rid of most of our drug laws. I do kind of wonder why they had the guns on their person - doesn't seem like a very smart idea.

Well, You see they did do something wrong! Besides the possesion of illegal drugs. According to federal law it is a federal offense to be in possesion of a fire arm and drugs. I don't know what you have to do in Tennessee to get a gun permit but if they are like most states they require you to read and understand that the permit is only valid in the state issued unless it is a federal permit which these idiots will never be able to obtain if convicted.

QUICK REFERENCE TO
FEDERAL FIREARMS LAWS
I. POSSESSION OF A FIREARM OR AMMUNITION BY A PROHIBITED
PERSON:
18 USC ? 922(g) & (n). Punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment. May receive
minimum sentence of 15 years without parole if offender has three or more prior
convictions for a felony crime of violence (e.g. burglary, robbery, assault, possession
of offensive weapons) and/or drug trafficking felony.
Elements
A. Possession or receipt of a firearm or ammunition;
B. By a subject who falls within one of the following categories:
Felon - (Additionally, persons awaiting trial on felony charges are prohibited from receiving
firearms.);
Drug user or addict - (Often shown where paraphernalia seized, subject tests positive for drugs
and/or subject claims drugs were possessed for personal use.);
Alien - (Includes illegal aliens and aliens lawfully admitted under non-immigrant visas, i.e., those
aliens not admitted for permanent residence. This provision does not prohibit aliens who lawfully
possess a so-called ?green card? from possessing guns or ammunition.);
Is subject to a domestic restraining order - (The order must prohibit contact with an intimate
partner, or child of the subject, and must have been issued only after a hearing of which the
subject was notified and at which the subject had an opportunity to participate. The order must
also find the subject poses a threat to the physical safety of the intimate partner or child or must
prohibit the use, threatened use or attempted use of physical force.);
Has a prior conviction for domestic assault - (Includes a prior conviction for any assault or
threatened use of a deadly weapon against a present or former spouse or partner or child or
guardian of any such person. The subject must have been entitled to a jury trial and been
represented by counsel in the prior proceeding or be shown to have waived those rights.);
Fugitive from justice - (Fled any state to avoid being prosecuted or to avoid testifying in any
criminal proceeding.); or
Dishonorably discharged from the military; AND
C. The firearm or ammunition was transported across a state line at any time.

You're right
They didn't do anything most normal people would consider seriously wrong. But the violations are serious. And here's what's worse. The Republicans had 8 years to reverse these animalistic gun laws. Instead they used their capital to launch a war in Iraq in order to protect the interests of Israel. Traitors on the left and traitors on the right, maniacs and cowards all.

Cops appreciate it when you tell them these things so there are no surprises; however it's usually smarter to do so AFTER they announce they will be searching your vehicle.

Sooo... if you're upfront with the cops then they laugh hysterically at you. Would the cops prefer that Davis and West resisted and lied so they could get their hardass on? Seems like they get plenty of that.

Really, I wasn't aware that we are out there for the cop's amusement and that one of them saw fit to disclose that the cops were hysterical over it or was that in the reports?

Yay, another non-violent "criminal" off the streets. Pathetic. Do you really think a bad person who had a gun would volunteer that information? No. He's not a bad person. Our drug laws are ridiculous and we already have laws on the books that prevent criminals from buying guns. Who's to blame? Bad government policies.

The laws are a joke. You can buy a gun from a private seller or from a gun show with no oversight. There are too many diverse laws around the country and too many nut jobs legally buying guns.
