Woman Jumps off Cliff to Flee Would-be Rapist

Malibu, Calif. (CBS/AP) A woman jumped off a Malibu cliff to get away from a man who was trying to rape her, officials say.

A jogger told Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies that she had finished her run at noon on Friday at Point Dume State Beach when she was grabbed from behind. She fought the man for several minutes, before she broke away, ran, and jumped off a cliff, sliding about 100 feet down a steep hillside.

Deputies say the suspect then escaped in the woman's Toyota Land Cruiser. Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. Derek Sabatini says the woman was taken to a hospital with cuts and bruises from the fall. The Sheriff's Department has released a sketch of the woman's attacker.
