Va. Lawmakers Oppose Forced Microchip Implantation, and the Antichrist

The Virgina House of Delegates on Wednesday approved a measure that could protect Virginia residents from overbearing employers, and possibly the apocalypse.

The law would make it illegal to implant an identification or tracking device into a person's body without their written consent. As the use of implanted microchips becomes more common -- people use them to track pets and could possibly use them for purposes such as securing one's medical history -- lawmakers are starting to address concerns. Some are concerned their use among humans would lead to a lack of privacy or abuse from employers. Others, the Washington Post reports, are also concerned the use of microchips could be the "mark of the beast" -- or the coming of the antichrist.

"My understanding -- I'm not a theologian -- but there's a prophecy in the Bible that says you'll have to receive a mark, or you can neither buy nor sell things in end times," Del. Mark L. Cole, the bill's sponsor, told the Post. "Some people think these computer chips might be that mark."

Cole reportedly said that he primarily sponsored the bill because of the privacy issues.

"I just think you should have the right to control your own body," he said.

Yet some fundamentalist Christians see more serious concerns in the Book of Revelation in the Bible, which reads, "He causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name."

Those opposed to the legislation mocked the connection to the Bible story. Del. Robert Brink reportedly said he never heard voters on the campaign trail mention any concerns about microchips.

"I didn't hear anything about the danger of asteroids striking the Earth, about the threat posed by giant alligators in our cities' sewer systems or about the menace of forced implantation of microchips in human beings," he said.

Some other states, including Georgia and Tennessee, are considering similar measures. A couple of states including California and Wisconsin have already passed similar laws.

This is why America is going down the gutter, passing ridiculous & stupid legislation like this while the major issues like healthcare & the like never get off the ground due to disfunction. The USA is stymied in religion, & crippled by corruption. America is the laughing stock of the world.
Oh by the way you already have the mark of the beast it?s the fish symbol on the back of your cars

Agreed. I don't understand why countries like the UK seem to realize how ridiculous it all sounds. I used to think it was because they were smarter overall than we are, but after watching some British reality TV I see they are just as moronic as we are most of the time. So why are they able to get past this nonsense while we end up getting stuck in the dark ages? There's a video on YouTube called Intelligence Squared which was a debate between the Catholic church on one side and Christopher Hitchens & Stephen Fry on the other. They were debating the question "Is the Catholic church a force for good in the world?" and took audience votes before and after. It is a wonderful video and I highly recommend it to everyone. The results were startling to say the least, and in a very positive way.

I could not agree with you and "tim..." more. I'm glad to see that there actually is people here who are realistic, rather that just one more "sheep" without some rational arguments and beliefs. As I came to the US from Spain, my frustration only grew as I kept realizing how such a thing can be happening in such an advanced country.

The Bible Prophecies always come to pass. We actually see them coming to pass. I was shocked when I learned that the US is the Bible prophecies. I just hope that US would get out of the UN and all World Government Agencies, stop the National ID, National Health Care and the DNA National database. God save America.

Ok, name the prophecy and which part of the Bible it came from. You can't because what you just said isn't based on anything but second-hand knowledge. The Bible hasn't gotten anything specific correct about the future, and neither have any of the other mystics or psychics. They just try to twist the facts in retrospect to fit their "prophecies". Before you just buy in to whatever someone tells you, do some research on it first. Research what I just told you for instance, and you'll see it is absolutely true. Don't give into the fear-mongering and think for yourself.

The bible came to America from the hands of the European, even them, long ago, realized how dangerous it can be due to people who take it to extremes and use it to justify their barbarities. It's time to turn page, come to reality and to the present. Killing people in wars as saying "god bless America" is not what "Jesus" came for to teach us, is it? I find it all so contradictory and ridiculous I can't even believe there's people to argue that.. If you wanna believe in god, believe in the mother nature and life itself. The only god that will be with us when we die will be the worms eating us.

i noticed that some of you think that people that believe the bible, (that has never been proven wrong) are crackpots. what does that say about you that believed in global warming? i have been studying the bible on a non religious platform for 38 years and my wife and friends are constantly amazed at how accurate i have been on what's coming next based on biblical prophesy. the world today is exactly set up today based on what revelations says and it also predicts that the generation that sees isreal become a nation again (1948) would not die out before the antichrist appears. isreal is the only nation in the worlds history to come again after dissappearing for 2000 years. how amazing is that. think about it. you know God is real.

What do you mean "believed" in global warming? It hasn't stopped or gone anywhere. You think that just because of that "climategate" garbage you can suddenly declare global warming was a hoax? Figures that you can twist and reinterpret Bible passages to fit these silly prophecies of yours yet you deny actual scientific proof of something affecting the entire world. Why don't you stop wasting your time reading the same book over and over again and go out and do some REAL research on things concerning the REAL world?

Of course with everyone carrying cell phones, laptops, blackberries, etc., the need to implant is quite moot.

We are all tracked everywhere anyway.

[We are all tracked everywhere anyway. ]

well ... if you're not doing anything wrong ... it should be ok ... right?

the only reason you are being monitored and tracked ... is because it has been implicitly allowed ... by those who make the statement i have listed above.

the nsa is mining all signalling data for every fax, email, text message, and phone call. they have access to the content of of all of these w/ the exception of the phone call ... which will soon be added to the list once all transmission are in digital form ... and the price of storage of that content falls.

eventually ... everyone will wake up and realize that what's 'wrong' (as in 'you are doing something wrong') is not what you think is wrong ... but what 'they' think is wrong.

ToolMangler1, you have no rational reason to believe it either. There is nothing to face because it isn't going to happen. I find it amazing how readily people are prepared to take the word of a 2000-year old book yet ignore scientific evidence of things like evolution, global warming, and even gravity in some extreme cases! Try thinking critically for once. I know it's a great comfort to think there's a wonderful afterlife waiting for you, but the truth is that you only get one life and it is going on right now. So you'd better make the most of it and stop wasting time on superstitious nonsense.

What kind of idiot would oppose this legislation. No one should have one of these without their consent. Forget the Bible. Anyone who believes Revelations is already slightly cracked, but this chip thing is creepy. They are trying to get these things into kids by scaring parents with the spector of kidnapping. As ususal, fear is the method to get folks to do all sorts of things against their best interest.

[One would think that ALL American citizens would welcome laws protecting them from involuntary microchip implant.]

well ... it appears as though nearly all american citizens ... and all but a single member of congress (russ feingold) has already welcomed laws (the patriot act) ... that subvert the constitution ... undermine traditonal american jurisprudence ... and places way too much power into the hands of govt ... all in the name of 'protecting them'.
