Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele said last night that "after taxes, a million dollars is not a lot of money."

Steele made the comment during a debate in Little Rock against Democrat Harold Ford Jr., the potential New York Senate candidate. The two men were discussing President Obama's plan to let tax cuts lapse for families making more than $250,000 when Steele made the comment.

According to the Associated Press, Ford later asked his University of Arkansas audience, "Who in here makes a million dollars a year?" No one raised their hand.

Steele countered by asking, "How many of you want to make a million dollars a year?"
