Reports: Obama Drops NYC for Terror Trial

(AP Photo)
New York is out. That's what one Obama administration official has been saying about the planned trial for accused 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (pictured at left) to major publications including The New York Times and The Washington Post Friday night.
Alternate locations being considered include the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, about an hour north of the site of the Twin Towers attack, and other military bases in New York. But other officials , that moving the trial is being considered but isn't a done deal.
Several New York politicians have complained that .
New York city's police commissioner had come up with a multi-million dollar security plan to be implemented if the trial were held in Lower Manhattan — security more extensive, critics said, than the security around the White House. With that as an overhang, even New York City's mayor reversed his support of holding the trial there.
If the trial is moved it could be not just a black eye for the Obama administration but a propaganda win for al Qaeda, according to one terrorism expert.
