President Obama and his family, who are on vacation in Hawaii, attended a screening of "Avatar" today, according to the Associated Press. The technologically-groundbreaking science fiction film, which is often shown in 3-D, is currently the top grossing movie in the country.

It would be interesting to get the president's take on the politics of "Avatar," which (spoiler alert) involves militaristic humans attempting to slaughter an indigenous people closely tied to the land on which they live. The goal of the attackers is to drive the Na'vi people from the land so they can obtain a precious metal found below their home.

The Obama family, which reportedly attended the screening with friends, is expected to be in Hawaii through Monday. Though "Avatar" is rating PG-13, eight-year-old Sasha Obama and 11-year-old Malia Obama were reportedly allowed to attend with their parents.

According to the New York Times, the first family attended a digital 3-D screening of the movie at the Windward Mall multiplex in Kaneohe. They reportedly arrived at 9:20 a.m., before the regular showings began, so as not to create too much of a disturbance.

The Secret Service reportedly cleared a movie theater for the first family to take in the film.

When Clinton left the Whitehouse the economy was at a surplus...the nation was properous. Eight years of Bush republicanism, the economy crashed. The second Great Depression arrived because of Bush and the republican party. President Obama has done a wonderful job considering he has only been in the Whitehouse for one year. Fixing the mess the right wingers created takes time. I thank the press for the great job it does in keeping us informed of everything going on. That's the base of a free society. Be Thankful that you live in a free country, with free speech and press. Stop the childish complaints of whether or not our nation's leader went to see a movie with his family...He deserves to relax...Bush was constantly "on vacation" and clueless to what the common working American was going through...You want to fix things? Increase the minimum wage to a living wage...10 dollars an hour should do it. Nobody can make a living on the current minimum of 7.25 an hour. Even full-time workers end up asking for food stamps after paying all their bills.

What a non-story. How much is the Democratic party paying CBS to stroke BO's ego?

As a follow up on this story I suggest you get Sasha Malia Obama to write a review of the movie. They are the right age to still dream of the stars and accept the possibilities that science fiction has to offer.

CBS really must be desperate to keep the administration happy with this non news story. Maybe they should hire some actual news reporters.

Obama is in Honolulu to get his birth certificate doctored. he will bring it back here and show us, hey citizens here it is.
The Obamas are not concerned their young children seeing a movie in which they are too young.Obama is used to breaking the rules.
Mr. and Ms. Obama only want to destroy the United States of America. Big Brother is now here.
Hilary likes the movie "2001 a space Odyssey" to control the people, was her fav. in college. Obama's style is more of the book by George Orwell, "1984".
To 2010: The Obama Deception.

Awww, are you one of those birthers? I'm sorry for you. And BTW, the kids are allowed to see the movie if accompanied with parents. No rules broken there. Where do you get your tactics? Limbaugh?

fedupwithlies2, thanks to the real big brother--Bush/Cheney--and their spying upon American citizens, they probaly know who you are and where you live, so you should perhaps watch what you say. And while we're at it, Genius, remind me again who lied us into war in Iraq; remind me who ignored a report entitled "Bin Laden determined to strike in the US" one month before 9/11 then said he didn't recall seeing it; remind me who scared us with hyped up terro alerts when it served them politically; remind me who ran up historic deficits and passed them on to Obama. Can you do that, or would it totally discredit anything you right-wing nuts have said about Obama and the democrats if you were to do so? Grow up and stop whinning!

Now that President Obama has been in office for a year, lets sum up the year. We are still at war in Afghanistan and Iraq. Gitmo is still open. Unemployment is over 10%. People are still losing their homes. Health care reform is in limbo. We had a terrorist attack over Detroit. Iran is still developing nuclear weapons. The domestic auto industry is in a shambles. The president is out to lunch. Excuse me. The president is on vacation. This president deserves a "D" for trying.

Go back and check out how many vacation days the last guy used in the same amount of time. This President has been busy working hard to get this country out of the mess it was left to him in. a little less than a year is not enough to time to clean up 8 years worth of mess.

ewo1977 - Wow. Is that old hat. You forget that for seven of eight years our economy boomed. The stock market was high, prices of homes went up like crazy, we had low unemployment, people were refinancing and spending the equity in their homers like crazy. Lots of money was made. True, many people lived far beyond their means and bought homes and cars they couldn't afford. You can't blame bad decisions by individuals on President Bush.
