Al Gore Pens Apocalyptic Climate Change Poem

Al Gore penned an apocalyptic poem on climate change for his recently-released book Our Choice after his editor declined to include a chapter on what the world will look like because of global warming.

The poem, which you can watch Gore read to a CNN reporter at left or read in full below, has met with mixed reviews: cheers on the part of Vanity Fair, jeers from conservatives, and both from various bloggers.

"Gore has unveiled a fresh and most unexpected talent," wrote 's Mark Hertsgaard. "The book's opening chapter of concludes with a poem he wrote—21 lines of verse that are equal parts beautiful, evocative, and disturbing."

Hertsgaard also calls Gore "the Poet Laureate of climate change."

Rush Limbaugh, on the other hand, read the poem on his show, calling it "stupid" and reading excerpts from the Vanity Fair review. He then asked that someone "please explain to me what's wrong with it getting warmer."

Here is the poem in its full form:

One thin September soon
A floating continent disappears
In midnight sun

Vapors rise as
Fever settles on an acid sea
Neptune's bones dissolve

Snow glides from the mountain
Ice fathers floods for a season
A hard rain comes quickly

Then dirt is parched
Kindling is placed in the forest
For the lightning's celebration

Unknown creatures
Take their leave, unmourned
Horsemen ready their stirrups

Passion seeks heroes and friends
The bell of the city
On the hill is rung

The shepherd cries
The hour of choosing has arrived

by PerthshireRobbo December 28, 2009 12:37 AM EST: I never leave comments on websites but I was so annoyed by watching Al Gores poem recital that I felt I had to.

I only really started researching the true facts suurronding climate change over the Christmas holidays. The more I read, the more I am convinced that the changes that Al Gore and Governments are trying to force us to make will not have any significant effect, if any at all, on the world's climate.

Al Gore's ice core data, which shows a link between CO2 & Temperature (which he omits to advise is actually a link that temperature drives CO2 levels with a lag of approx 1000 years!) proves 2 things. Firstly, it shows the world's temperature has always fluctuated over time and therefore it is not surprising (especially when we are now scrutinising current temperature records over a comparitively very short period)that there will be fluctuations.

Secondly, Al Gore does not tell the whole truth. I suggest that this is because he stands to make a serious amount of money and therefore he has a conflict of interest. His primary motive behind his film, book & campaigns does not appear to me to be his concern for the future of mankind. If it was then why did he never promote it when he was in the position of vice President. More importantly, why is he not trying to do something for the millions of men women and children who are CURRENTLY dying in under developed countries? (It would be hard for him to make a billion dollars for a campaign to assist these people and a far more worthy cause!)

My opinion that what Al Gore says cannot be regarded as genuine was reinforced when I came across this CNN clip of him reading what allegedly was a poem he wrote himself. I, now and again, pen some words of poetry and when I do, I can recite it without reading it or, at worst, with minimal prompting (and only when it is lenghty). If he wrote that poem then I was born on Mars!

Al Gore read the poem as if he was reading it for the first time and even messed up a line. He read it without any intonation or emotion, which convinces me even more that he did not compose it. Any poetry that I have written then I recite with emotion and add emphasis to words as you wish to captivate the listner and not bore their pants off with a monotone delivery.

I am no expert on poetry but I'm sure anyone who is, would be of the opinion that Al did not read the poem the way the writer intended it to be "read" (delivered). If Al was a shy retiring charachter then he could be forgiven for being a bit stage struck when reciting it infront of the camera, but Mr Gore is more than comfortable delivering speeches in front of millions of people.

Bottom line is, in my opinion, Al Gore did not write the poem. If I am correct then Mr Gore tells lies, or at the best does not tell the whole truth. If he is prepared to tells lies about the poem then why should anyone believe what he says about climate change? My experience of people is that some are comfortable telling lies when others are not. Those who are not comfortable telling lies, don't do it and they (and what they say) are generally well respected. Those who do tell lies are known to be a lier and they (and what they say)are generally ignored.

Why then should anyone respect Mr Gore or anything he says?!; Reply to this comment
