Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton, is engaged to her boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky, CBS News confirms.

Clinton and Mezvinsky announced the engagement to friends via e-mail on Friday, the Associated Press reports, and said they will possibly marry next summer. President Clinton's spokesman Matt McKenna confirmed the engagement to CBS News.

The 29-year-old former White House resident met Mezvinsky as a teenager in Washington, and they both attended Stanford University. Mezvinsky, the son of former Pennsylvania Rep. Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky and former Iowa Rep. Ed Mezvinsky, now works as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs. Clinton is currently attending graduate school at Columbia University's School of Public Health.

Speculation swirled last summer that the couple would marry in August, but those rumors turned out to be false. Click here to view photos of Clinton and other high profile figures recently engaged or married.

Search: Ed Mezvinsky father of the new husband to be...

Office: JAILED U.S. representative from Iowa, 1973-1977

Highlights: His son is engaged to the daughter of a powerful political family. (CHELSEA CLINTON !!)

Crime: After Congress, Mezvinsky plead guilty to 31 counts of fraud, for tricking investors out of $10 million. His lawyers offered an unusual defense.

Google this CROOK... I'm sure Hillary and Bill approve of the son of this CROOK.... who's Dad has such an outstanding reputation. Maybe the genes of these people SEEK EACH OTHER OUT... even BEFORE THEY MATE.

Must have been Monica's GENES JUST BEGGING to meet Bill Clinton... and now Chelsea's genes are doing the same.

It was only $10 million bucks... nothing serious... so Chelsea's offspring will now be able to brag about Grandpa's from BOTH SIDES OF THE FAMILY TREE.

It's not like she's going to marry the son of Joe Banana's... (Mafia)... as that might be newsworthy.

We care why? It's not like we care about the weddings of complete and total strangers.

it just shows that some people are sick of celebrities.who cares for beyonce, taylor swift,chelsie,mark,...self-indulgant people who spend hundreds of thousands on themselves and have an army of followers who hope that by staring into photos of celebrities, they will become ones themselves.

The daughter of the man who granted China most favored nation status and who championed inequitable free trade is marrying somebody who works in the industry that has only to speak ill of an American company's labor costs to make them fear for their stock price and force them to move offshore?

lollll...although I must wish them well on general principles, the irony is...sad.
