Madonna: Calling Obama a Muslim meant to be "ironic"

(CBS News) Madonna has clarified that when she referred to President Obama as a Muslim during a performance Monday night, it was just part of her act.

At a concert in Washington, D.C. on Monday, the pop star told her audience, "Y'all better vote for f******g Obama, OK? For better or for worse, we have a black Muslim in the White House. That's some amazing s**t. It means there is hope in this country."

Through her spokeswoman, Madonna released a statement explaining her remarks: "I was being ironic on stage. Yes I know Obama is not a Muslim (though I know that plenty of people in this country think he is.) And what if he were? The point I was making is that a good man is a good man no matter who he prays to. I don't care what religion Obama is - nor should anyone else in America"

The Pew Research Center reported in July that as many as 17 percent of registered voters incorrectly believe Mr. Obama is a Muslim. Just under half correctly identified the president as Christian.

No problem, bud! We baggers are a forgiving bunch. But back to Maya Soetoro, Barry Soetoro's sister, she gave quite a nice talk about how she grew up next to the man who'd be president one day..."

I see no problem with that, she is lucky to have that experience, just as we all are lucky that he became president, and lucky that he is on target to be president for four more years.

With any luck, maybe we can draft his wife to run in 2016, then we can enjoy the benefit of his counsel and experience for yet another two terms.

Yes, that would be amazing!!! "Honey, lets go over how to get the country to 16% Poverty, 25% under and unemployment, 14% Black unemployment and 11% Latino unemployment, all the while running a 6 Trillion dollar tab that the Chinese will pick up!!!" A knee slapper!!!!

Your stats, especially when accounting for the total across-the-board increase in unemployment which has been an endemic part of American economics since Reagan, are just another example of bagger disconnect.

Unemployment has been a result of subsidize outsourcing of labor, a practice begun back in the mid-1970s and later accelerated and championed by GOP-ers ever since Reagan, it caused that "giant sucking sound" mentioned by Ross Perot.

Of course baggers will try to say that Mr. Obama caused the contraction of the 1970s also, or imply that he has the power to stop businesses from outsourcing to slave-wage countries.

Perhaps you would posit that the answer is to allow slave-wage labor in the America. Maybe you hold the mistaken belief that your own children will somehow not be made slaves in such a system, that the rich "whites" running the businesses actually care about the well being of their non-rich "white" brethren's children.

How ever it goes, it is fun to see the convolutions baggers use to try to explain that which actually needs no explanation, they just cannot stand a "black" president, even one who continues the policies they supported under his "white" predecessors administrations.

I do confess to a perverse pleasure in the whinings of baggers complaining that the days of racism with impunity are over, that like the mythical Dracula, they are being burnt up in the rays of the new dawn.

actually, I accept his new legal name just as much as I accept his Indonesian adopted name, Barry Soetoro..."

Therein lies your arrogance, it is not up to you to accept or reject any one's name but your own. It is the law that accepts and recognizes a person's name.

But we see that you are wont to pick and choose when to consider a law as valid.

Actually, I can choose to call him whatever pops up at the moment. That is part of my First Ammendment rights. And since he is legally Barry Soetoro still today, I can and WILL call him that as often as I feel the whim to do so. We baggers can be whimsical :-)

Of course you do! It is granted to you by the same Constitutional ammendment Mr. Soetoro's administration stomped on when they apologized for someone exercising it! Cheers!!!"

Funny how exercising his constitutional right to apologize for idiots who spew lies and hatred toward people they have never met, is somehow deemed by baggers as stomping on the constitution!

Baggers are a laugh riot.

Btw, it is also funny how baggers cannot accept a man's legal name.

Since the law recognizes the President as Mr. Obama, it seems that you whine about your perceived abrogation of law in Mr. Obama's apology, then refuse to accept his legal name.

Baggers are such idjits.

She had no right to call Barry Soetoro (adoptive son of Lolo Soetoro, a Muslim Indonesian man), AKA Barack Hussein Obama a Black Muslim. Just because his birth father was Muslim and his step dad was a Muslim and he attended a Muslim school in Jakarta, Indonesia and just because he admitted to Stephanopoulous that Mc Cain had not questioned his Muslim faith it does not automatically make him a Muslim, right?

Right.

Being any religion is a conscious choice, made be an adult.

By your own logic, since you are obviously so afraid of Black Muslims, and so bitter that a "black" man has been elected president, and will be again, don't I have the right to call you a racist coward?

If Madonna is the same person as the actress she was when filming a "A League of Their Own" In Evansville Ind. back in the early 80's. Then shes one of the last people I'd trust my nation with her judgement of governing it.

It is not your nation, it is our nation, whom you trust only has meaning if those who agree with you vote in the majority, which probably won't happen again anytime soon, or into the future.

This tutti-frutti obviously has a different definition of ironic than those who use the English language.

Ironic adj:

: a pretense of ignorance and of willingness to learn from another assumed in order to make the other's false conceptions conspicuous by adroit questioning; called also Socratic irony

2 a : the use of words to express something other than and especially the opposite of the literal meaning

b : a usually humorous or sardonic literary style or form characterized by irony

This from Mirriam-Webster, her statement fits right in with the literal English language definition of the word.

What English language definition do you baggers use?

From Mirriam-Webster's dictionary;

"1 : a pretense of ignorance and of willingness to learn from another, assumed in order to make the other's false conceptions conspicuous by adroit questioning —called also Socratic irony

2 a : the use of words to express something other than and especially the opposite of the literal meaning

b : a usually humorous or sardonic literary style or form characterized by irony

c : an ironic expression or utterance "

So Madonna's statement is perfectly logical as per Mirriam-Webster, her use of the word accurately describing her intent.

So what English language definition do baggers use? Is an incorrectly and falsely assumed error of semantics on your part all you baggers have left?

Baggers are such maroons.
