Gallup: No bounce for Romney post-GOP convention
Updated 10:45 p.m. ET
(CBS News) Despite a week of high-profile speeches and events designed to introduce Americans to the Republican presidential nominee, a new tracking poll from Gallup suggests that Mitt Romney received no bump in the polls as a result of the Republican National Convention.
The survey, which polled voters between August 31 and September 3, showed Romney with 46 percent support, while President Obama earned 47 percent support.
In Gallup's pre-convention tracking poll, conducted from August 24-27, Mr. Obama was at 46 percent support and Romney was at 47 percent. Both results are within the poll's margin of error, which is +/- three percent.
According to the survey, the lack of a bounce is "consistent with Gallup's immediate post-GOP convention reaction poll, showing Americans giving Romney's acceptance speech, and the convention more generally, rather muted ratings."
Moreover, Gallup's seven-day average of presidential preferences shows that Mr. Obama has held steady at 47 percent to Romney's 46 percent every day since August 29.
"That is a slight shift in Obama's favor, as Romney held a consistent two-percentage-point advantage for nine days in mid-August, shortly after announcing Paul Ryan as his vice presidential running mate," writes Gallup's Jeffrey Jones. "That was the longest period in Gallup Daily tracking showing Romney with any kind of edge."
The survey notes that Romney joins 1972 Democratic nominee George McGovern and 2004 Democratic nominee John Kerry as the only recent presidential nominees who did not benefit from a post-convention bump. But according to Gallup, it's possible that the bounce was depressed by the fact that voters already had a "good sense" of who Romney is, thanks to the extended primary process.
Another poll out Tuesday night showed Romney's favorability rating rising slightly post-convention.
A Washington Post-ABC News poll has Romney gaining five points among all adults vs. a week ago.
Meantime, Mr. Obama's favorability is down, as just 47 percent of registered voters view him favorably and 49 percent rate him unfavorably.

say hi to all the other pakistanis there in Karls's boiler room for me
who has been feeding you BS?
romney a self made man?
hahahahah
he was born into a millionaire family
Romney himself admits it took at least 10 million or more to buy into the deals he made.
btw
staples was already in existence when Bain bought it. any jobss he created were the minimum wage floor sale variety
btw
it easy easy easy to be a volunteer when you are already worth hundreds of millions
you are either a liar or a sucker....maybe both
aintfakin, actually you are the one who is incorrect. Romney donated his inheritance and started from scratch. Romney's first deal at bain was for a million dollars. Staples was ONE store when obama invested in it. And it's easy to volunteer even if you don't have hundreds of millions of dollars. Before you resort to calling people names you should know what you are talking about."
LOL, George Romney sent his boy to Harvard. Bet you're daddy never used his money to send you to Harvard. Willard leveraged George's connections to borrow the money, at favorable, good o'boy rates of course, to buy out companies. The banks would have loaned you what? $25-50K to start your own business. Willard never, ever had to play on a level field.
Mr. Ryan made the unforgivable mistake of making fibs. Most people never recover from that. Mr. Romney was called out for switching positions, or as the Republicans used to call it, flip-flopping.
The real question is, why does their base continue to support the Romney Ryan ticket?
I believe it is because the base has nowhere else to go.
Smart, intelligent Republicans are not going to vote for the alternative, because for them, there is no alternative.
If you invest all of your beans in a lousy horse, you ride it, even if it makes you look like you are off your rocker.
That's the kind of situation Willard thrives in, he'll take and take until he gets the enjoyment of firing you. Like I say, any blue collar guy has more than likely run across at least one of these Aholes, if he has varied experience, several of them. So why do they want to vote for one of them? Like I said, it's mysterious.
He just promises more failed Republicon policies of taking from the 99% to give to the rich.
But if the Wall Street puppet gets in, the people will finally rise up and take back America. No one in the 99% can afford another Republicon for 4 years. So either way Robbed Me and the Republicons lose.
And they both also need to get off the abortion issue because the only thing they can do about is a constitutional amendment. The SCOTUS has ruled that the choice of abortion is constitutionally protected right. This means to overturn that decision requires a constitutional amendment. These baboons couldn't get a 2/3rd majority on anything so they can't even remotely achieve this, so quit using a dead issue as scare tactics.
Sorry for a vent as my first post, but I believe there is a large number of folks who will agree.
