Obama: GOP agenda "better suited for the last century"

President Obama shakes hands with supporters after speaking at a rally September 2, 2012 on the University of Colorado campus in Boulder, Colorado.

(CBS News) BOULDER, Colo. - Knowing that cheers and applause from supporters won't get him re-elected, President Obama told some 13,000 supporters here at the University of Colorado to make sure they were registered to vote, along with their friends, family and classmates.

He called for a Rocky Mountain Showdown between his supporters at rivals University of Colorado and Colorado State to register the most voters.

When his supporters booed at his mention of the Mitt Romney agenda, as they did today, Mr. Obama told them: "Don't boo - vote." It's become a boilerplate line in his campaign speeches.

He defended his policies and took plenty of swipes at those of Mitt Romney and the Republicans, but he all but begged his crowds to make sure they can vote.

He urged them to go online at GottaRegister.com - apologizing to English teachers for the "gotta" in the website name.

His rally today marked Mr. Obama's 13th visit to Colorado as president and his eighth this year. The frequency of his trips here reflects the importance his campaign strategy places on keeping Colorado and its nine electoral votes in his win column. It's a state he won in 2008 by a 9-point margin, 54 percent to 45 percent, but which polls now show to be a toss-up.

The Obama campaign also sees college campuses as fertile ground for the president's political outreach. A CBS News tally shows that since August 1, eight of his 25 campaign rallies have been staged on college campuses.

Today's crowd in Boulder proved receptive to a reprise of Mr. Obama's harsh review of the Republican convention.

Reiterating criticism he unveiled yesterday at two rallies in Iowa, Mr. Obama sarcastically called the GOP convention "something to behold." He said Republicans offered an agenda "better suited for the last century" and that Romney didn't offer "a single new idea."

Today's rally came on day two of what the Obama campaign calls the "Road to Charlotte." Along with stops in Iowa and Colorado, the president has a campaign rally tomorrow in Ohio and on Tuesday in Virginia - before arriving in the convention city on Wednesday.

In addition, he will make an "official" visit tomorrow to Louisiana to inspect hurricane damage and reaffirm the federal government's commitment to address unmet needs there.

Before arriving on campus today, Mr. Obama dropped-by a popular local restaurant called The Buff. He ordered a breakfast plate known as the "Ole Skillet," made up of two eggs and potatoes topped with chile verde, jalapenos, onions, tomatoes and cheddar cheese with a side of toast.

Telling his rally about the visit, he said he saw fellow breakfast patrons enjoying mimosas and Bloody Marys. "And I was thinking to myself - you know I could see folks forgetting to vote. They're having too much fun."

He said that's why getting people registered and voting is so important. "You're going to have to set an example for the person next to you in class," he told supporters. "You're going to have to remind them: have you voted yet?"

Early voting in Colorado begins October 22.

The Tbaggers in the House took an oath to subvert the president at any cost. This was a violation of their oath of office.

Should they be tried for treason? Many think so.

Not as many as you think. Even if the Dems get all the toss up districts, the GOP is still going to retain the House next year.

Obam apledged to cut the deficit, and had Repub lican accepted ANY of his proposed grand bargains the deicit would be 1/3 less than it is now - and if the GOP had passed Obama's plans for job growth and additional economic stimulus. we may well have halved the defici.

______________________________________________

You are delusional. The stimulus bill was passed and the debt limit was increased which is evidence that it didn't work. Clearly the electorate blamed the president which is why the GOP won the house in 2010.

In compairson toi negative 8% GDP losses and 750,000 jobs a month being lost, which is where things stood when Obama took office, we are clearly far better off today than we were then.

Tell that to the millions who are still unemployed.

"take us backwards with MORE OF THE SAME failed GOP policies"

...as opposed to the same Democrat failed policies. You know, Obamacare, the stimulus plan, and increase the debt limit in order to decrease the deficit.

Conservative propaganda. Obamacare didnt fail. The stimulus didnt fail (took us form minus 8% GDP shirnkage and minus 750,000 jobs per month to plus 1.8% GDP growtrh and plus 200,000 jobs per month). And the debt limit wasn't increased because of Obama's spending - it was increased as a result of GOP SPENDING under George Bush that we are still paying for today.

It sure didn't stop the ballooning deficit. That sounds like a failure to me.

Who cares what the topic is? Obama pledged to cut the deficit and it has increased despite his economic policies. The real TOPIC is that he does not know what he is doing and he wants to point the finger at everyone else.

I hate to tell you, but if you reformed the tax code so that it was a flat tax type structure when every person and business paid the same rate, the poor and middle-class would get hammered.
-----------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------

Not if you also cut the expenditures down to ONLY the things listed in the Constitution! Then, the budget would only be about 1/3rd of its current size...and tax rates can be low. If the poor and middle class cannot pay a certain rate, then neither can the rich.

But as I said earlier, the better way is to just not tax income at all. Listen to our founders. They were very clear on that.

We're all aware of your unique take on the Constitution. Thank God you will never sit on the bench. Aren't the the clown claiming to do a PhD in the US Constitution a while back? If so, where at, Liberty U?
TheFoundersLive replies:

No, the only clown here is you. It appears Mortar was a constitutional scholar. I have learned much from him. And one thing is that this view is the EXACT SAME view of those who wrote the Constitution. So, that would make you an enemy of the Constitution, since you do not support it.

The truth reiterated again:

I have to disagree with the President on this call. The policies of the T'bggrr enslaved GOP are best suited to the Gilded Age rather than the 20th Century. After all the 20th was the century of the US becoming a major world power by winning WWII and then winning the peace, all under Democratic Administrations. Not to mention putting a man on the moon, again lead by a Democratic Administration. The RepubliCONs started us downhill during the eighties, until now when they have bottomed out by putting a Robber Baron up as a candidate for POTUS. How far we have sunk thanks to RepubliCON guidance.

It didn't stop the Stimulus Plan, Obamacare, and raising the debt limit.

Yet the deficit keeps rising....

In 1993 Clinton saw that reducing the deficits would lower long term interest rates. He raised the highest tax rate a few points, no Republicans voted for it, Al Gore had to break the tie in the Senate.

In 1995 Gingrich and Dole wanted to close the deficit with huge cuts that would have damaged many programs, there was a standoff, they lost. People wanted the programs, they wanted the rich to help pay for them.

The president has no power to raise or lower taxes.

And yes, people wanted the rich to pay for their programs. They wanted to steal from the rich.
