Ann Romney again targets women voters

Ann Romney's Republican National Convention speech

Ann Romney speaks at the 2012 Republican National Convention

(CBS News) TAMPA, Fla. - Fresh from her Republican National Convention speech, Ann Romney on Wednesday kept up her pitch to women voters as well as her charm offensive to improve her husband's image.

"They are the ones that have figured it out," Ann Romney said of women at a breakfast fundraiser here organized by Mitt Romney's campaign. "They are the ones that have done the math, and know where we're headed if we don't get someone in there to fix the direction of the country, because it's the direction we're heading in that is the trouble.

"This is why so many of the women in this nation have got to figure out, 'Am I going to go in that voting booth and vote for my children's future?''' she continued. "That's what they have got to ask, because this is going to be an economic question for them."

She also borrowed a theme from the convention's keynote speaker, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who stressed the need for politicians to make unpopular decisions without following polls. "The next generation is going to be paying for our debts," she said. "We're just passing the bill along, and Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are standing up and they're saying `That's wrong, no, we are not going to do that. We are going to do the hard thing, the responsible thing, and the moral thing.'"

(Watch: The 2012 Republican presidential primary, in four minutes.)

At the breakfast, Ann Romney's five daughters-in-law honored her with short speeches. She also was the subject of two video tributes - one from her husband, who is campaigning in Indiana. He joked that her prime-time speech on Tuesday night was so well received that the delegates might nominate her instead.

"Wouldn't that be interesting? And do you think that if Ann were the nominee, the press would write stories about how my job is to humanize Ann? I don't think so," he quipped, poking fun at the many articles that have been written about his wife's message at the convention.

The breakfast - billed as a "Women for Romney Victory and Women for Mitt Breakfast" -- was also a public coming-out party of sorts for Janna Ryan, wife of the vice presidential candidate, who gave her first, brief set of public remarks since her husband was added to the ticket.

"Ann's story is an inspiration for millions of women across this country and her friendship is an unexpected blessing in this campaign," Janna Ryan said. "It is a privilege to join you and Mitt on this campaign. It is a tremendous honor to be on America's comeback team with you all."

Ann Robbed Me trying to appeal to women is like Al Capone advocating for gun control. Or Adolph Hitler campaigning for Jewish rights. Or Mitt Robbed Me defending Medicare and Social Security.

"You People" got a brilliant performance from Ann. Trouble is her country club manner cannot overcome trhe fact that her husband is still running the sleaziest campaign in US history. He has been from the beginning of the primary system. Support by his wife of a man who has absolutely no regard for the truth should be taken in exactly the same way a jury considers the testimony of a serial rapist caught in the act, with no credibility. I am surprised she did not talk about dressage horse therapy. More surprised she did not tell deadbeat students to borrow from your parents or to cash in their stocks and bonds, they she and Mitt did in the lean (before looting pension funds and tax payer dollars) years.

Perhaps Ann & Mitt have a "Real" marriage, and I'm sure as she says Mitt makes her laugh, but I'm also sure that the - LOVE - she spoke of is based on sincerity, honesty, truth, and past experience. When Ann Romney says we can Trust Mitt, I imagine she doesn't believe that Mitt is keeping any Secrets from her. But how can Americans trust or fall in love with a presidential candidate who has completely changed his beliefs when it appeared convenient and who advertises his business acumen, but keeps all of his financial information secret so as not to publicize what a Secret Santa he has been to everyone? You're right, Ann. Mitt makes me laugh, too! I will grant that you have a Real Marriage and that the two of you were meant for each other, it's just that I don't believe that you have a Real Life and were meant to be models for the rest of us! I understand you trust your husband's judgment, but, how could you let Mitt tie the family pet to the roof of the car?

Ann Romney can talk until the cows come home.
There is nothing she said any woman I know or myself that we can relate too.
People I know are worried about putting food on the table, pay their health bills and keep their jobs of which Ann Romney doesn't have a clue.

Real marriage? Legitimate marriage. Legitimate rape? Legitiamate equal pay? Ann's a nice 1950's housewife. For the women who like that message good for her/them. It is 2012 and women today have cancer, raise children, married or not, and work outside the home. Romney is stiff. But it is his actions or lack thereof that determine if he should be President. Economics he believes in trickle down. Foreign policy is that of GWBush. Flakey on womens rights.

I do not dislike Ann Romney in any way - she is a nice lady, but to say her and Mitt have a "real marriage" is a deliberate incendiary statement. She would have been better off if she had stated they had a " perfect traditional marriage". Also if she is trying to win over voters and telling them she HEARS them, then the irony of the GOP is at the same time they pushed out or drowned out Ron Paul delegates who worked hard and deserved to be heard. If the GOP will not tolerate slight dissent in their own party and they refuse to LISTEN, how can Independetns, let alone Democrats, believe the GOP is listening to them either. The bottom line is the GOP is so fully of hypocisy, no one can believe anything they say. Bottom line: Believe what they do not what they say they will do.

It's wonderful that Ann Romney loves women everywhere. Too bad she's not running for President. Too soon old, too late smart. Mitt has thrown in with a bunch that has publicly stated that they don't care what he thinks as long as he can hiold a pen to sign what they want.

Ann may be a very nice woman. She may be a great mother and wife, but she's not running for office Mitt is. I "expect" Ann to give her husband a glowing report card, that's what a loving wife does. She glosses past the negative and enhances what she feels are the positives, but are they really positives? I think not. I think Ann's love for her husband ignores the devastation and destruction he's left in his path to wealth. No charitable contributions to HIS church can erase the pain and suffering he has caused to hard working families because of his greed. Furthermore, Mitt sleeps with those who, hard to even fathom, are greedier and more tyranical than he: The Koch Brothers and Karl Rove for example. Honesty doesn't fit in their vocabulary nor does empathy or kindness. Wake up AMERICA..Mitt is using you for his biggest coup yet. He wants to highjack our Country.
