Obama, Romney take the day off, attend church

(CBS News) After a brutal week of campaigning that included Mitt Romney saying the Obama campaign is based on "division and attack and hatred" and President Obama calling Romney's policies "trickle-down snake oil," both Romney and Mr. Obama took the day off the campaign trail to spend with family and attend church.

At his vacation home in Wolfeboro, NH, Romney attended the first two hours of a three-hour service with his wife and one of his sons and six grandchildren.

Romney received a warm welcome from at least two congregants who welcomed the presidential candidate back.

"Welcome back," an elderly woman said, giving Romney a hug, the pool reporter noted. Romney responded with a cheerful "thank you."

Romney, who held an iPad in which he periodically looked at, appeared to listen attentively to talks by a recent missionary who is also a member of the prominent Marriot hotel family, and a sermon about "personal revelation" to be a better person and also help those less fortunate.

Mitt and Ann Romney left the church around noon Sunday, walking out with another woman who was taken aback by the cameras.

"You're in trouble now. You're in trouble now," Romney said to the woman as he put his arm around her. Ann Romney joked to the press that "she got caught sneaking out early."

The Obamas, meanwhile, also attended Sunday service at St. John's Episcopal Church across the street from the White House, a popular church for sitting American presidents.

Rev. Michael Angell held the service and called the country to work out their differences without reverting to violence. Rev. Angell referred to last week's shooting at the Family Research Council and mentioned that he grew up near Aurora, Colo., according to the pool report.

romney seems like a nice guy but his enormous wealth, compared to that of the majority of voters, makes him seem out of touch with nearly everyone. romney has many homes, mansions really, and even asked for taxes to be lowered on a home in southern CA and actually got it. don't begrudge his wealth but really feel that he has no idea of the pains of the majority who earn less than, as an example, 75k a year down to just dirt poor. don't really care about his religion as anyone who is elected is sworn to uphold the U.S. Constitution. romney is just too elite because of his wealth so there is no connection with the majority of voters. when is the last time you had lunch, coffee, chatted, attended a function, whatever and were seated next to someone worth some 250 million? when was the last time, you lived next to a multimillion dollar mansion? wonder if he has cooks, maids, butlers, drivers, gardeners, etc.? bet he does.

Wow, too rich..That really disqualifies a man doesn't it..makes him out of touch...Kennedy, T. Roosevelt, G.Washington,FDR,..those "po" mens name ring a bell?? People tend to forget that Romney GAVE AWAY ALL of his inheritance from his father to, get this......CHARITY...and then, started his own business. The lame stream media won't tell you that though. Nah, it doesn't jive with their bias.

At least Obama seeks out the diversity of different Christian faiths. Romney adheres strictly to the Mormon cult.

Jaylah54200 says:
That's the problem with most folks calling themselves "Christian" in this country today.

They are, at best, Sunday-morning Christians. (Although it usually doesn't even last for the full morning.) And then they go right back to their very un-Christian behavior.

In my experience, the more someone talks about being a Christian, the less they actually behave in accordance with the tenets of that religion. TRUE Christians, tend not to talk about it. They just live it. And if you ask, they'll tell you they TRY to be a Christian. Not that they are one.

I do realize that the perfect person has yet to be born, but the Christian religion tells its members that when they do something wrong, they are supposed to admit to what they did, make it right, and then do their very best not to do it again.

I think we can all, whatever our religion (or lack thereof), other than the sociopaths among us, agree that lying is wrong. But did either Romney or Obama walk out of church, say to the reporters standing outside, "Some of my campaign ads have been misleading at best, and outright lies at worst. I'm sorry I did that and I'm not going to run those ads, or any like them, in future"? Of course not.

The Christian bible tells people that, whenever they meet a person who has less than they do, they are to share what they have with the other person. Not what percentage of their wealth they should share. Not after they've made a certain amount of money, then they should start sharing. If they meet a person with less than they have themselves, they should share what they have. If they only have one crust of bread, and they meet a person with no food, they are to share their crust of bread. (Gee, how socialistic, huh? So much for even the idea of a social conservative Christian. An oxymoron if ever their was one.)

In fact, I'll bet you dollars to doughnuts they were both sitting there during the sermon thinking about their campaigns and campaign strategies. Which included more misleading and/or false ads.

There's a word for those "Sunday morning Christians" and it ain't "Christian." It's "hypocrite."

"Shake your hand in church on Sunday and stab you in the back on Monday". That's what my grandfather use to say about the ones you call "Sunday morning Christians".
