White House: "Yes," Biden is still on the ticket

US Democratic presidential candidate Illinois Senator Barack Obama and running mate Delaware Senator Joe Biden wave during a rally in Springfield, Illinois, on August 23, 2008.

(CBS News) In the wake of controversy surrounding recent comments by Vice President Joe Biden, a couple of prominent Republicans have offered the Obama campaign some unsolicited advice:

"The strategists there in the Obama campaign have got to look at a diplomatic way of replacing Joe Biden on the ticket with Hillary [Clinton]," said Sarah Palin, the 2008 vice presidential candidate, in a Wednesday interview with Fox News. "Joe Biden really drags down that ticket."

John McCain, who was at the top of the ticket with Palin, agreed that Clinton would be a good addition to the ticket - though he acknowledged there was little chance the Obama team would go for the idea.

"I think it might be wise to" replace Biden with Clinton on the ticket, he said on Fox, before adding that "it's not going to happen obviously, for a whole variety of reasons."

Asked in the daily press briefing if Biden is still President Obama's running mate, White House press secretary Jay Carney on Thursday confirmed McCain's suspicions, telling reporters that Biden remains on the presidential ticket - and taking a swipe at the Arizona senator in the process.

"Yes. And that was settled a long, long time ago," said Carney, when asked if the 2012 ticket was still Obama-Biden. "And while I appreciate, I have great admiration for and respect for and a long relationship with Senator John McCain, but one place I would not go for advice on vice presidential running mates is to Senator McCain."

Palin, who served as a McCain's vice presidential running mate in 2008, has since become one of the nation's most controversial political figures, and many have since questioned McCain's decision to name her to the ticket. Even former Vice President Dick Cheney, who served under George W. Bush, has expressed criticism for the decision-making process that led to her selection.

"I like Governor Palin. I've met her. I know her," Cheney said in an interview on ABC in July. "But based on her background, she'd only been governor for, what, two years. I don't think she passed that test ... of being ready to take over. And I think that was a mistake." Cheney later clarified his remarks, saying he meant the process used to select Palin was a mistake.

The Obama team, meanwhile, continues to fight off criticism over comments Biden made Tuesday at a campaign stop, in which he suggested Republicans want to put voters "in chains" with their economic and regulatory policies. The comments sparked particular controversy because a number of the audience members at the event were African-American.

At Thursday's press briefing, Carney continued to insist that the controversy was a "confected" distraction from policy issues the Romney campaign is attempting to avoid.

Biden has to be feeling like a three-legged dog at an adoption shelter. Nobody wants him but the shelter can't get rid of him.

Obama would be smart to dump Biden. Hillary has performed well as Secretary of State, whereas Biden has made one major gaffe after another throughout his career. Hillary would energize the female vote and give the Democratic voter a chance to fall in love with something new -- which is something they seem to have a psychological need to do. Here's why Obama won't dump Uncle Joe: it would p!ss off many Catholic voters, particularly after Romney selected a Roman Catholic as his running mate. It would also hurt his chances of winning Pennsylvania, the state where Biden was born and raised; and he would lose Delaware's 3 electoral votes.

Lets try that again...

If a car is headed 90 miles an hour off a cliff....
And all the sudden the driver is changed...
And he manages to turn the car away from the cliff....it don't matter that the car may be going slow! Just that its not going off a cliff anymore!

Nope...that doesnt do it. Analogy doesnt work.

Mine actually portrayed the issue. Why? Because the economy wasnt going off a cliff. It was in a recession. Then our politicians got involved and made it worse. So, instead of going through it and coming out healthy and strong like we have done with the other recessions in my lifetime...we come out anemic and ready to stall.

That isnt good news.

Let me give you an example...if I jump into my car, and the mechanic said he did the things to fix it...and I take off, and the car is going 10 mph, making a bunch of noise...and cant go any faster...sure, I am moving again. But the fact I am moving at such a slow rate doesnt tell me that things are getting better. They tell me there is something seriously wrong.

Those numbers are abysmal!

I like that just north of me a few hours, a shop owner told Biden to take a hike, when the VP wanted to come in and eat and do a photo op. Shop owner sais he didnt want to do a photo op with anyone that thought he didnt build his business. LOL

The even funnier thing is Biden then went to a shop nearby that did allow him in. In the meantime, the Secret Service came into the first shop and they thanked the owner for saying NO to Biden and they bought a bunch of food.

Even then Secret Service agents dont like this guy.

It's very telling about Oblama and what a horrible president he would be, that his first decision as a presidential candidate was to pick a VP, and he chose Joe Biden.

If you remember, (because media like c-BS-news will never remind you,) Oblama campaigned on 'Hope and Change' telling us Wash DC is broken and can't be fixed by Insiders. We need fresh ideas from people who aren't a part of the Beltway.
So who does he pick for a VP?
Blowhard Biden, a guy who's been in Wash DC since 1972.
Pathetic, pathetic, pathetic.
And we all pay for it. And will for decades.

It was very telling about McCain and what a horrible president he would have been, that his first decision as a presidential candidate was to pick a VP, and he chose Sarah Palin.

So who needs advice from him after that blunder?
HawkSpringsIsHere replies:

Verascity,
Sarah Palin, a mother of 5, had tons more leadership, executive, and business experience than Barack Obama did in 2008.
She was a great pick, and McCain would have lost by 20 points if he didn't have her on the ticket.
