Romney slams Obama's 'misleading' ads amid criticism of his own attacks on welfare policy

(CBS News) NEW YORK--Mitt Romney on Thursday took umbrage at what he called inaccurate and misleading ads run by the Obama campaign and an allied super PAC, even as his own campaign continues to run an attack ad that has been deemed "pants on fire" false by a fact-check organization.

Asked by conservative radio host Bill Bennett about the "lowball nature" of an ad being run by the pro-Obama Priorities USA Action super PAC, which tries to tie the presumptive nominee to a woman's cancer death, Romney said fact-checking groups have called the ad misleading.

"The various fact-checkers look at some of these charges that are in the Obama ads and they say that they're wrong and inaccurate and yet he keeps on just running them," Romney said in the radio interview. "You know, in the past, when people pointed out that something was inaccurate, why campaigns either pull ad, they were embarrassed. Today they just blast ahead."

But the issue cuts both ways, as Romney well knows. His own campaign's most recent ad claims that under the Obama administration's recent changes to welfare reform, people wouldn't have to work or train for a job. "They just send you your welfare check," a voiceover proclaims. This claim has also been debunked by multiple fact-check groups, which point out that the changes to the welfare law are meant to offer states greater flexibility, but require that states increase the amount of people moving from welfare to work.

(Watch: Romney continues controversial attack on welfare.)

Despite his own rhetoric decrying false and misleading advertisements, Romney's campaign has shown no sign that it will remove its own factually challenged ads or stop making similar charges on the stump. Instead, Romney continues to make the argument that Obama is pushing a "policy of removing work from welfare," which he says will moving the country toward "a culture of dependency."

To bolster his point, Romney gave an example of a question he was asked while shaking hands on the rope line after a campaign event in Iowa on Wednesday.

"(A woman) said, 'But you know, how about the people who have children at home and, you know, don't want to work?' And it's like, well, we have to work," Romney told Bennett in his radio interview. "The idea we're going to have a citizenry that raises families but doesn't work, and the concept of government to pay for the nurturing of their children and for the support of the adult, that is just not something that can build the kind of society which is uplifting to the individual and strengthening to the nation."

Here's a photo of Sheldon Adelson sitting at a Marriott owned hotel... did Romney engineer the same tax dodge for Adelson and Trump and the Koch Brothers?

How about this tax dodge for himself?

this is an election, not fair cause they give you only two to choose from and they both have bad , and have good, but both eqaual out to be the same, so what are you to do, you either vote for one or the other , or don't vote at all, cause if the votes don't go the way they want they just toss many of them to the side and go with what is already made for sure in the plan, already done befoe the voting has began. i say it will be OBAMA, again, im not sure what im going to do, vote or not vote at all, it realy isn't going to matter one way or the other, if its not the one the government wants it to be it won't count anyways, so its relly a waste of time. lots of decesions to make between now and then. but if i vote seeings how there is only two of them, and i agree with a lot OBAMA has already done to the poor, I'd have to vote for OBAMA. romney is for the rich only, and wanting to push the poor to being more poorer. its all upto how the poor want to live for the next four yrs on the streets no medical or in a home with medical help, which is OBAMA, for the helping the poor, if you are rich and against the poor vote romney. hopefully there is more for OBAMA then romney. GOD bless america.

Obama's killed thousands with his wars and millions were thrown out of their jobs and you worry about a few jobs in companies that were unprofitable and would have failed anyway???

@louiville 2 "Obama killed thousands".....Hmmm, wasn't that BUSH?? And didn't Obama kill the one that mattered most - Bin Laden?? But for the party ideologues who still have sex with inflatable dolls, what does truth matter anyway??

Here is the truth about a nation becoming dependant on th Fed.Gov..Take a look for yourself..The number of people receiving welfare and food stamps has doubled in the last few years..look it up for yourself. Ask about the "tupperware" style parties that teach people how to get on gov. assistance that don't really qualify. Look at the billboards in Spanish only that tell illegals how to get food stamps..How about the welfare applications being given out with only it being to register as a democrat..Sol Alinsky ring a bell.

The increase in food stamp occurred under the Bush Administration....I suggest that you look THAT up. Also, on a percentage basis white Americans are the largest recipient group. Stop being a selective news consumer and make an effort to get both sides of the story.

FrancesWhite: you lie. Also the deficit in the last 3 yrs, under Obama's watch has gone up up up up up up to the point where even our great great great grandchildren will still be paying off the debt Obama has made. Our nation's budget if you are even interested shows that the USA will be spending so much more than it will be taking in. A nation cannot operate as a free and first rate nation with this type of debt. Is the United States to be another Greece?? Entitlements and other items in our budget must be reduced. Also let's reduce the staff of the president and first lady, take their vacations paid by taxpayers away and make the WH lean and mean. Congress needs to be reshaped too, no salary increases, change their pension plans and health care insurance. Also the former presidents need to make changes to so they are not a burden on the taxpayers.

Obama is a socialist and wants to take God out of this country. He has almost ruining our nation in 3+ years; don't let him completely destroy it.

The Dems are doing so much lying in this campaign against Romney and now Ryan that all their noses will be several feet long before November.

Now that we are aware of all the funding that Romney is hiding in the Cayman Islands, Bermuda and Switzerland there is no doubt that this gazillionaire is not concerned about most Americans and will not be honest about his taxes because he very likely did not pay taxes for years. Romney got rich by harsh tactics against companies often bankrupting them while taking away huge profits for himself. Romney wrote an article Let Detroit Go Bankrupt which would have been horrible for so many people working in the car industry and who work along with car companies. Fortunately President Obama was not that heartless. He stood up for the middle class people and saved the American car industry and so many jobs. Paul Ryan is one sorry Catholic who wants to voucherize Medicare, cut away at every program that benefits the needy and the poor and give more tax cuts to the wealthy. Romney is all for the Ryan Plan, but Catholic Nuns are not for it and many Catholic leaders have stood up about the heartlessness and ruthlessness of the Ryan Plan.

Geezus bmallen3, you can't possibly be that f****** ignorant can you?
The funds are hidden from the IRS, because the banks don't and, in fact, report the amount of deposits to the IRS. Its been a rich-boy way to cheat on taxes for decades now. The Swiss invented it and raised to an art form, and Bermuda and the Caymans copy catted. As far as GM, your POV is why Willard is going to lose the industrial midwest. Let Willard go on repeating that GM shouldn't have been bailed out and that foreclosures are God's own way of strengthening the economy at every bus stop. He'll get about 30% come November.

This guy is unbelievable. In the first place, according to his statement, it is perfectly fine that his wife has never held a salaried job but it just isn't right for the average American housewife

I was the only wage earner while my wife and I raised four children. I worked as a foreman in a manufacturing plant in St Louis for 20 years, back when salaries were still adequate to live on.

That plant shut down in 1983, just like most other manufacturing plants in America have done, thanks to deregulation and predominately Republican administrations, since Reagan.

Romney won't release his tax records during his time with Bain Capital but he has promised to release two years, 2010 and 2011. The 2011 returns are (very conveniently) not ready yet. I would be surprised if they are ready even one day before the election.

He will NOT talk about his religion either. Probably Because he is a HIGH ranking leader of the Mormon church, which was created in 1830 by Joseph Smith, a CONVICTED con artist, who made a living duping folks into believing he could find buried treasure with a magic glass in his hat.

Smith also claimed to have used that magic glass-in-the-hat trick to find and interpret those golden plates.

Romney said he would create 12 Million jobs in his first term in office. Could it be that he plans on using Joseph Smith's magic glass-in-the-hat trick for that too?

This may also help to explain why Romney can switch positions on any issue; AT THE DROP OF HIS HAT!!!!!!!
