Shooting survivors call for gun control plan from Obama, Romney

(CBS News) Coincidentally, on the same day that seven people were killed at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin, a coalition of mayors released a new ad - before the shooting - calling for the presidential candidates to present a plan addressing gun violence.

The TV ad from Mayors Against Illegal Guns aired during the Sunday political shows and the Olympics and is part of the group's Demand a Plan campaign, which was launched in the wake of last month's mass shooting in Aurora, Colo.

The ad features three survivors from the 2011 Tucson, Ariz., shooting that killed six and injured 13, including then-Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

"Our leaders gave us a moment of silence then, but they haven't given us a plan," the survivors say in the ad. "President Obama, Governor Romney: We demand a plan because 48,000 Americans will be murdered with guns during the next President's term."

"The Tucson survivors have waited nearly 600 days for Washington to take action to end gun violence - they are still waiting, and we are all waiting," said New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, an outspoken advocate of gun control. "Every day that goes by without action, 34 more people will be murdered with guns. The people who want to run this country need to tell us their plans to stop the bloodshed."

I want to make it clear. The violent crime of my stabbing was not bikers. The bikers showed me respect, They beat me but they showed respect.

I bought a Harley for cash from my disability money. I spent 7 months in a VA hospital, trying to get better from my PTSD. I was set up and my Harley was stolen. I set up a meeting after the theft and after the president saved my life from being shot in the back of my head and dumped in a open trunk of a car. A deal was made and I had to find out who stole my bike. I found out who stole my bike and went to the biker club house, a lone, and never called police. I lost two teeth but stood up for the Marine corps. They did not follow through with their promise to let me fight the two who stole my bike and if I won I get to buy their bikes for one dollar. True story and if Americans grew some, people would not do random acts of violence. The cops will not and can not save us. Grow some America its only teeth but you make a point...

I want to thank the monitors for removing my rants that put my life in danger from gang members. My phone was ringing. As a disabled veteran and a victim of a violent crime from gang members, I have insight. My biggest problem is self medication on those bad days drinking alcohol. I am so frustrated by Americans not standing up and stopping violence in their neighborhoods. Americans need to grow some and fight to be safe and free. We can do this if we all work together. I was stoned with rocks in Indonesia because I was eating with my left hand. I was stoned by children and the shop owners who were adults stopped the children stoning us two Marines. If we did that in America we could stop gang activity. We all need to step up and get involved to protect each other.

Michael Bloomberg is a scumbag. NY already has the most expensive and expansive restrictions on gun ownership. It still isn't working. So when Doomberg wants to come to my state and try to enact NY gun laws on me (not a new yorker), I want to kick him in his zionist balls.

The gun control debate continues with the same old argument about criminals always being able to get guns. That argument has been perpetuated by the NRA and quickly became the mantra of all those who are terrified that their second amendment rights will be taken away. It's probably the only amendment these people can cite. So far, the people who have committed mass murder in this country have gotten their weapons legally, so the argument about criminals getting guns is a moot point. All it does is deflect from the real issue and that is addressing gun violence. We refuse to address gun violence on that old and overused argument. I want the people who swear that life will be worse if we regulate firearms to tell me what their solution to the problem is. And give me something concrete, not cliches such as "guns don't kill people; people kill people." I have no idea what we should do about this but we need to do something, so please, let's hear some solutions instead of rants.

It is so horrifying to see innocent people falling victim to such violence. It's easy to understand how these victims can cry out to other's to protect them and their loved ones from such harm in these times. There are a lot of people in the U.S. who are unable and/or unwilling to take responsibility for protecting themselves or even their family and loved ones from harm if it means they have to take someone else's life. I only ask those of you who choose to allow yourselves and your loved ones to be victims to violence by making the choice to not be armed, please do not take away the rights of those who are willing and able to stand up and fight to protect themselves and loved ones. Surely, a victim of a violent crime does not want to see others fall victim or experience what they experienced. Look at all the places that have outlawed their citizen's rights to keep and bear arms and you will see it has only served to allow more of these citizens to fall victim. Who is going to protect me and my family when we are miles from shore while fishing or SCUBA diving or deep in the woods studying wild life and vegetation? There are all kinds of predators, both mankind and animals that pose serious potential harm that a firearm can easy serve as a deterrent. Please don't take away my means of protection in hopes that someone will not use a firearm against you. The weak and vulnerable are always more prone to attack by both mankind and animals I do not want to be weak or a victim.

Hey idiots, guns aren't the problem. You Liberals say that guns kill people so you want gun control but at the same time, you'll kill your baby through abortion. It's too later for gun control. I have all that I need to protect myself and family after I get one more. Gun sales have sky rocketed since Obama took office so it's too late for gun control. To me, gun control means being able to aim your gun properly to eliminate your target so I'm very good at gun control.

So the shooting survivors want a gun control plan from obama or romney? Yohoo--they are not dictators (yet). so it really means the survivors are whining to government. They are asking the congress that: is filled with millionaires, are mostly lwyers, have been there so long they are completely out of touch with the people they represent (not the lobbyists), pass bills without reading them, rely completly on the beaurocracy in washington and can't pass a national budget and call each other names like toddlers. You turn to these people for a plan or help? That's scary!

Rather than continue the debate about gun control why not just enforce the laws we already have? Put some teeth into the legislation that would require stiffer sentences (other than taxpayer supported life imprisonment). Our judicial system requires some tweaking, our PC way of life needs to end and we as a country need to take back our communities from the criminal elements. The last two tragedies may well have been prevented with better background checks - maybe not. They are now in the past, hopefully we will learn from those mistakes.
On the other hand, why are we complaining so bitterly about gun control while we blink as much bigger numbers are slaughtered everyday in foreign countries.
Personally, until our law enforcement agencies are given the ability to actually prevent crimes, I will happily subscribe to responsible private gun ownership.

I realize that liberals are just as disgusted as the rest of us when stuff like this happens. But it's almost like they can't wait for the next one, so they can start up the anti gun agenda again. I don't think they realize that crazy people will find ways to kill mass amounts of people if they want to. Homemade bombs are shown how to be made on the internet. They can plow cars into crows. Even 2 simple handguns could kill a dozen people. It's not the guns, it's the crazy people. Quit whining about cruel and unusual punishment and start publicly executing these nut jobs. That's a better start than trying to ban the law abiding people from carrying a weapon.
