Romney aide to press: "Shove it"

(CBS News) The relationship between a presidential candidate and the press is often tenuous, but reporters covering Mitt Romney in Poland Tuesday found themselves in a tense verbal altercation with one of his aides after they tried to shout questions at the candidate.

After leaving an event with Warsaw Mayor Hanna Gronkiweicz at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, reporters, including one from The New York Times, yelled questions to Romney, who proceeded to ignore the queries, according to a pool report. As they were shouting their questions, Romney's travel press secretary Richard Gorka told the reporters to "show some respect."

After reporters protested, pointing out that Romney has only taken "but three questions" during his entire trip to London, Israel and Poland, Gorka said, "Kiss my a**. This is a holy site for the Polish people. Show some respect." The back and forth continued for a few seconds until Gorka ended the conversation with, "Why don't you shove it?"

(Audio of Romney's aide's altercation with the press.)

Gorka later called two of the reporters to apologize, but the ongoing battle over access between the press, who wants to talk more often with the candidate, and the Romney campaign appears to have hit another low.

On Monday, Fox News host Greta Van Susteren wrote on her blog, "There has been no press access to Governor Romney since we landed in Poland. We (press) are in a holding pattern (I can't help but feel a bit like the press is a modified petting zoo since we are trapped in a bus while Polish citizens take pictures of us.)"

It is my opinion, reporters DO need to show MORE respect!

Most of the ones I have seen are rude, hateful, biased liars who will write or say anything they can think of to get their name noticed. They no longer look, or write, for the truth as they have adapted to manufacturing the truth. They twist words, take them out of context and refuse to admit they haven't a clue of what really happened. This article is a prime example.

Reading the article first it is worded in a manner so that the reader could get the impression it was a yelling fight between the two. But as the truth is seen in the video, it was a simple statement made by an aggravated person being harassed by reporters.

Sad to say, those once thought of as 'Truth Soldiers', have now joined the ranks of the 'Legion of Fame' and elected Money as their commanding officer.

Since it is becoming more and more obvious that Romney cannot release his tax returns without risking the nomination itself, let alone the election...

He needs to come up with a principled, patriotic and morally superior response to the inevitable questions as even Republicans are calling for him to release what he clearly does not dare to release.

McCain had a look at them and quickly crossed Romney's name from his VP list

So try this one, Mitt...

"As a true, loyal, patriotic, freedom-loving American who knows that a man's tax returns are sacred and inviolate (and possibly a violation of my right to avoid self-incrimination)...

I am telling "you people" to all just SHOVE IT"

It's easy to see where Mitt acquired the diplomatic skills that he displayed with such elegance (and arrogance) in the UK and Israel...

Given his uncanny ability to twist, flip and backpedal while denying any mistakes or misdeeds, Mitt should have been COMPETING in the Olympics as a gymnast/contortionist/acrobat, instead of criticizing the London organizers in a blatant effort to compliment himself.

Offending our closest ally is not the way to showcase your very unorthodox and insensitive diplomatic talents, Mitt...

It's just plain arrogant...and really dumb to have revealed so much of your true character!

Romney has much he wants to avoid and taking questions only makes him more vulnerable.

It would be interesting if they posted his speech or at least the gist. I learned elsewhere that Lech Walesa supported MItt Romney to be the next president. Has this been reported by CBS?

I was reported. Actually what Lech Walesa offered was a general salutation regarding success that was poorly translated into - "you da man!".

The ex-union bosses want Romney to win. Sure.

Romney sat down with Greta, Brian Williams, Piers Morgan and Wolf Blitzer at different times DURING this trip and answered every question thrown at him. Romney has probably answered over a HUNDRED questions during his overseas trip
