Politics returns as Obama adviser tweets about Romney secrecy

Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod.

(CBS News) After a brief respite from election-year partisanship following Friday's mass shooting in Colorado, Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod was back on offense Monday morning, tweeting out a series of articles about Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, whom he cast as a secret-keeper of Olympic calendar.

"Tax returns. Bundlers. Bain. MA records & now key docs from Olympics. When it comes to secrecy, Mitt takes the gold!" Axelrod tweeted, linking to a story from ABC News.

In the aftermath of Friday's mass shooting at a movie theater, which killed 12 people and injured 58 others, the Obama campaign said it would be suspending negative ads in Colorado through the rest of the week. The Romney campaign said ads in Colorado are down "until further notice."

Meanwhile, President Obama on Sunday night traveled to Aurora to visit with the victims of the shooting, and Romney, marking a rare occasion of praise for the president, lauded him for the trip.

(Obama speaks in Aurora, Colo., on Sunday.)

It's unclear, however, how long both campaigns plan to rein in attacks on their rivals.

Not long after Axelrod posted his tweets, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) blasted out a CNN story about Romney's "other tax secret." The Obama campaign also has a conference call scheduled for later this morning about Romney's scheduled trip overseas.

Axelrod's Twitter bio states that "Views expressed through this personal account are my own," and the Obama campaign declined to comment on the tweets.

"If you say to your tax people, as he seems to have done, 'I want every trick in the book. I want to push this to the edge,'" Rattner said during an appearance on "Fareed Zakaria GPS" on CNN. "I will tell you that as a private equity guy, I'm familiar with many of the things that Mitt Romney did. And I know many people who have done many of the things that he did. I do not know anyone who did everything that he did."

"Some of what he did, like the IRA, I have asked fellow private equity guys," Rattner said, referencing the account in which Romney has stored up to $100 million tax-free. "None of us had even known this was a possible trick, if you will. He has pushed the envelope all the way to the edge, to his benefit, and I think that Americans would find that pretty distasteful."

According to the Center for Responsive Politics, the biggest lobbyist bundler for Romney so far has been Patrick J. Durkin, the Washington lobbyist for the British bank Barclays, which is currently under investigation as part of a global rate-fixing scandal. So far, Durkin has bundled $1.45 million for the GOP challenger, and is set to co-host a fundraiser for Mitt Romney in London next week. [L.A TIMES]

The Ax knows Obama's only chance to win is run the most negative campaign possible so folks don't look at Obama's failed record. And when Obama ran in 2008 he said he would be a different candidate who wouldn't run a negative campaign--------just another broken promise.

Even Republicans are concerned. THE SEC FILINGS SHOW HE WAS STILL PRESIDENT, CEO & SOLE SHAREHOLDER UP UNTIL 2002? DID HE FILE FALSE PAPERS? IS HE A LIAR AND A FLIP-FLOPPER? DID THESE INDIVIDUALS GET PAID? WHO SIGNED THEIR CHECKS AND UNDER WHO'S AUTHORITY?

~In November 1999, his signature appears on documents connected to a deal with Stericycle.
~In January 2000, he signed paperwork for a deal with VMM Merger Corp.
~His John Hancock appears on ChipPAC Inc. documents in February 2001.
~That same month, Romney's signature can be found on paperwork connected to a Bain deal with Integrated Circuit Systems Inc.

Does this have something to do with his "Tax Havens" in the Caymans, Bermuda and Sweden? Was he using the shield of the Corporation to reduce his tax liability from 2000 to 2002 to NOTHING, yet during those same years he received a salary from BAIN in the amount of $100,000+ Dollars that was deposited into those "overseas accounts"? And what about Romney's $100 Million Dollar IRA? How is that even possible when the maximum contribution is $30,000 a year?

John McCain vetted Romney as his VP running mate. Romney provided the McCain organization with over 23 years of tax-returns. McCain took ONE LOOK and said HELL NO! But that still is not the BIG SECRET Romney is hiding!

So what is Tricky Mitt hiding? Why does he not want people to know about his business dealings if that is what he is saying people should vote for him? And has anyone heard even ONE good plan or idea he has to create good American jobs? I'll wait for one.

Be afraid American, be afraid. Keep listening to Fox Propaganda Channel and Limpballs. I can't go to work today because the voices said to stay home and clean the guns.

#3, Time, on the list of sure fire ways to determine that a lefty has heard a fact they don't like:

Their response will contain one of the following: Fox, Rush, Parrot, Propaganda.

If it contains two or more of the terms listed above, they will shortly regurgitate some Lefty Propaganda as a "refutation".

nichrhodes you make a great point, "people" like Robmee want to preach religion for everyone else. In fact, folks like Robmee believes whatever he wants. His whole life has been hurting and cheating people and he thinks that is just fine.

What I can't understand is who would support this creep who has no plans, no ideas and nothing good to say or do for America.

While you are pondering my reply, here's another thing to think about..Might want to look at the only interview given by Rev. Wright about the private meetings in his study talking about how Obama wrestled with attending a Christian Baptist church while still not want to LET GO if his Muslim upbringing. The interviewer asked the Rev if he had anything else..The Rev. said, I have a little box and smiled. Reckon that might be an October surprise?

President Obama, in his first week in office, sought to shut down the detention center at the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay, but Congress interceded to prevent that. So the fact that Guantanamo is still open is due to congress (read Republicans) not the President. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Americans read, write and comprehend at an 8th Grade Level, the same as a 14 year old. That is the only reason this election appears to be close ..... stupidity on a national scale!
