(CBS News) President Obama will stop in Aurora, Colo., Sunday afternoon to meet with local officials and the families of victims of Friday's mass shooting there.

The trip, announced late Saturday night, will be a brief stopover; he's expected to be in Colorado for only a couple of hours.

His visit comes after canceling two campaign events in Florida Friday, after news broke about the shooting. "There are going to be other days for politics," Mr. Obama said in Ft. Myers, Florida, before cutting short his campaign stop. "This, I think, is a day for prayer and reflection."

In his weekly address to the nation Saturday, he said, "the federal government stands ready to do everything necessary to bring whoever's responsible for this heinous crime to justice. We will take every step possible to ensure the safety of all our people. And we will stand by our neighbors in Colorado during this extraordinarily difficult time."

After looking at these posts, I can only marvel at some of these rightwingers comments. They blast him for doing his job as president to meet with the victims and their families, yet if he hadn't come, they would be complaining that he was "ignoring" the victims. This kind of mindless rhetoric is ruining the country.

IF the President truly cared he could have visited in private WITHOUT CAMERAS AND PR, then, if compelled issue a simple press release after the fact.
The community does not need the added stress and trauma of an invasive influx of Obama and more media hype.

It doesn't seem right that if you're a relative of a victim, you have to stand there and listen to his speech and have your hand shaken or hugged - even if you've never liked or support Obama - just so he can appear for his own self-promotion.
How many times has he done this?? It's not necessary! He can send them a letter!

Don't come to Colorado Obama.
We don't want you here using this as a political Photo Op.
We can't stand your damned masquarade of explointing this tragedy.

First go to Chicago and pretend to mourn the record number of blacks being shot and murdered there that is like the genocide that goes on in Africa and also the hundreds killed in Mexico and along the American side of the border with the illegal guns you and Erc Holder sold to the Mexican drug lords and cartels to try and blame the NRA, legal gun stores and law abiding gun owning citizens.

Rot in hell you evil Marxist socialist opportunist.
You have a lot to answer for.

While it is commendable that Obama took time our from his campaign schedule to comfort thos who suffered losses or injuries in the Colorado shooting;.....

What I want to know is when was the last time he went to a military hospital to thank those who sacrificed everything from their eyesight, their brain, their hearing and their limbs to give them a few words of praise and comfort.??

The massacre of the people in that theater is a true tragedy.

But so is the way our returning veterans are being treated by our government.!!!

There are 800,000 (Federal, state, county, and city) licensed peace officers in America and approximately 3 million military personnel (1,477,896 active duty military personnel and 1,458,500 reserve military personnel). And there are approximately 235 million privately owned firearms held by approximately 55 million households with over 7 million CCW permits.

Almost half of America's 112,611,029 Households own firearms.

7,225,800 adults were under correctional supervision (probation, parole, jail, or prison) in 2009.[3][4]

Who would you rather have the guns legal law abiding citizens or the criminals.

So consider what the outcomes would be if businesses were not allowed to deny those citizens who qualify for CCW permits their right to carry. We have only 800,000 law enforcement officers in our entire country who work tirelessly 24/7. Why deny them the assistance of 7,000,000 qualified assistants in a country with about 200,000,000 adults over 21 (another 18,000,000 between 18 and 21). Sounds like you could use a little help there.

Politicians and especially the "news" are showing their worst side. Politicians see this as a photo-op and the news media is way worse. Don Henley and Danny Kortchmar's song "Dirty Laundry" says it perfectly:

I make my living off the Evening News
Just give me something-something I can use
People love it when you lose,
They love dirty laundry

Well, I coulda been an actor, but I wound up here
I just have to look good, I don't have to be clear
Come and whisper in my ear
Give us dirty laundry

Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em all around

We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who
Comes on at five
She can tell you 'bout the plane crash with a gleam
In her eye
It's interesting when people die-
Give us dirty laundry

Can we film the operation?
Is the head dead yet?
You know, the boys in the newsroom got a
Running bet
Get the widow on the set!
We need dirty laundry

You don't really need to find out what's going on
You don't really want to know just how far it's gone
Just leave well enough love
Eat your dirty laundry

Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down

Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're stiff
Kick 'em all around

Dirty little secrets
Dirty little lies
We got our dirty little fingers in everybody's pie
We love to cut you down to size
We love dirty laundry

We can do "The Innuendo"
We can dance and sing
When it's said and done we haven't told you a thing
We all know that Crap is King
Give us dirty laundry!

Let me get this straight. This is the biggest mass murder since the 9/11. many people, and the city, are greiving and trying to come to grips with this outrage and put their lives back together. the police are busy putting the pieces together to figure out why and how this happened. So the president wants to shut down the city so he can show up? Please give these people a little respect and stay away.
