Updated 10:30 a.m. ET

(CBS News) Both President Obama and Mitt Romney are expected to take a break from politics Friday and will address the Colorado shooting at their campaign events.

Obama campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters, "The President will address the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado in shortened remarks" at his Ft Myers, Fla., event Friday morning.

Mr. Obama was also scheduled to hold a campaign event in Winter Park, Fla., later on Friday. The campaign told CBS News that event has been canceled.

First Lady Michelle Obama was scheduled to hold two campaign events in Virginia on Friday. Those also have been canceled.

The Obama campaign told CBS News that they have asked Colorado TV stations to stop running ads attacking Romney "for the time being." The campaign adds, "It takes time for stations to be able to do this, but we are making every effort."

Meantime, Romney campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul said in an email that the Republican candidate will address the shooting at his campaign event in Bow, N.H., though the campaign adds his event will not be a "typical campaign event" and he'll just be addressing the tragedy.

Earlier, Mr. Obama and Romney both said they were "saddened" by the shooting.

More time, money, effort & drama to prove what we already know. I really don't give a red rats' ass if he wasn't breast fed as a child. I once heard Ron White say that his state, Texas, has implemented an express line on death row ie; "If you kill someone, we will kill you back." Makes perfect sense to me in this instance. A well placed 9mm round administered by an Officer of the Law when the guilt is this obvious. Perfect! If you don't agree to quote Rhett Butler "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn." This hump killed 12 people for damn reason whatsoever. He needs to join 'em N O W & answer to GOD on high & if the bleeding hearts don't agree, tough. No reason to keep this creep alive.

Heard Obama.

Politically correct blathering with the typical appeals to emotions.

Then there was the requisite spewing that Americans are united.

What?

Diversity is our strength the PC mob proclaims.

Observe reality..... there is no united America.

BAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And the masses of brainwashed bleating sheep declare their contentment that as things are is correct and proper.

Romney will assuredly spew similar drivel; emotion-laden, designed to appease the masses of bleating citizen-sheep idiots.

I can just see Obama's speech.
We need to make up more gun laws since we already have hundreds on the books and ban all guns like my commie kin did in Russia and China.

The sick opportunist will be all over this like a fly on dung.
He of course will not bring up Fast and Furious were he and Eric Holder were responsible for the murder of hundreds of people in Mexico and a Border Agent when they sold illegal guns to the Mexican drug cartels
