Oprah interviews the Romneys

(CBS News) Mitt Romney had a high-profile houseguest while at his New Hampshire vacation home this weekend: Oprah Winfrey.

CBS News has confirmed that Winfrey sat down with Romney and his wife, Ann, Friday at his lakefront home in Wolfeboro, N.H. The interview, first reported by the New York Times, will be published in Winfrey's magazine, O, The Oprah Magazine.

Winfrey is one of President Obama's most high-profile supporters, raising money for his campaign and even hitting the campaign trail for him in 2007.

"CBS This Morning" co-anchor Charlie Rose asked her earlier this year if she'd be campaigning for the president this time around.

"No, I'm not going to be out there," she told Rose in April.

"I actually love our president, and have the utmost respect for him and that office and what it takes to be there. I will not be out because I'm trying to fix a network," she added, referencing her struggling Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).

I am not really sure the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints (LDS) - the Mormons are or were ready to accept a Black man as the President of the United States. On the day after Barrack Obama was elected gun sales in the state of Utah (the headquarters of the LDS Church) skyrocketed to unbelieveable numbers. Maybe the gun sales are an indication of just how readily the Mormon population actually accepts a black person - yet they want the black vote.

Didn't Oprah know that Lifetime already existed? The problem with Oprah and as a result OWN is that Oprah's media empire is targeted squarely at women. While her magazine provides a uniquely positive outlet in the world of women's magazines, her channel won't have the same appeal. If she could expand her channel beyond a narrow niche it might have a better chance. Can't we empower everyone, not just women?
