New Obama ad mocks Romney singing "America the Beautiful"

(CBS News) Continuing its two recent lines of attack, President Obama's campaign on Saturday released a new ad featuring reports about Mitt Romney's offshore assets and history with a company that shipped American jobs overseas. The ad's soundtrack? A rendition of "America the Beautiful," sung by the presumptive GOP nominee himself.

"America, America, God shed His grace on thee..." Romney is heard singing in video from a January campaign stop in The Villages, Fla., as clips from ABC News and Vanity Fair flash on the screen: "He had millions in a Swiss bank account... Tax havens like Bermuda... And the Cayman Islands."

Articles from the Los Angeles Times and the Boston Globe are also showcased to focus the spotlight on Romney's past at the private equity firm Bain Capital, which sent American jobs overseas: "Mitt Romney's firms shipped jobs to Mexico. And China," the ad shows. "As Governor, Romney outsourced jobs to India."

The debate currently raging in the campaign is whether Romney was actively managing Bain while these jobs moved out of the U.S.

"Mitt Romney's not the solution; he's the problem," the ad concludes, as Romney fades out on "Crown they good with brotherhood..."

It's not the first time Romney's ballad has come back to haunt him. "The Late Show With David Letterman" uses it in a regular bit, during which Letterman plays the video backwards. But questions about Romney's finances and history at Bain have amassed in an onslaught over the past few weeks.

"The Obama campaign appears to be stuck in their own 'Groundhog Day,' repeating the same, debunked charges they've waged for weeks in an effort to distract voters from his administration's failure to fix the economy and create jobs," Romney spokesperson Amanda Henneberg said in a statement.

Andrea Saul, another Romney spokesperson, told CBS News in a statement, "It is sad and shameful that President Obama would mock 'America The Beautiful.' But sadly it's not surprising for the man who launched his presidency with an apology tour. The 'Uncle Jims' of our country - as he condescendingly calls middle-class Americans - don't believe in mocking America The Beautiful and don't believe in apologizing for America."

I like this commercial. It shows a candidate signing an American song. Who cares if he's out of key. I couldn't do any better. At least he showing his patriotism.

I doubt I will ever see Obama sing about America. He won't even wear a Flag pin.

Anyone can add text and pay for an ad to try to smear an opponent. But actions speak louder than words, and Mitt Romney signing America the Beautiful, speaks volumes.

Thank you Obama for airing this. I love to hear a true patriot.

Sorry, you were the first comment. If you had a ton of money, and had business' all over the place that were flourishing, (while the rest of our economy is going to poop in a handbag), and knew that the government was going to take it. Tell me, you would put your earnings somewhere other than in Obama's pocket. EVERY political candidate finds things to stir up the pot, just like catty women do. Vote with your values, and not what the speech writers are telling the presidential candidates to say. We have puppets for government, who are quite wealthy. Obama doesn't have to hide his money, he has it in America, where we're in debt 17 trillion dollars for a health care reform we have no details on. I love this country!

CP105... have you ever thought of reading things and educationg yourself before you speak. No need for cursing. What is needed however, is your ability to see that Obama's net worth is over a million. His pension even has an offshore account. And by the way, Romney's company has to make capital and keep jobs in this economy. His company still employs more american than most of the other commercial companies

I find it entertaining that Obama is mocking Romney for singing a patriotic song, and that none of the statements have come from a conservative news distributor. Obama has added over $5 trillion to the national debt in only 3 years, I would hate for that progression to continue but all of the Brown-shirts have drank the cool-aid, so there is only one way to stop the bleeding, and that is to get rid of the corrupted leader.

Brown shirts? What are you implying? It shows how little you understand of political systems, please visit your local library they have books that'll tell you about the brown shirts and why taxes are important for a healthy society. Or just look at Europe where taxes are generally much higher and the people are much healthier and happier.

First off, Romney carries a tune better than 98% of Americans. He's being mocked because he's singing America the Beautiful to a group of retirees, whereas our Saviour-in-Chief is "cool" because he can sing Al Green "I'm so in love with you ..." to his Democrat mega-donors.

We have had 3-1/2 years of "cool", and this is where it has gotten us.

All this trumped up crap about what Romney (a real Boy Scout, anyone who knew him in business will tell you) does with HIS money is irrelevant. What is relevant is what Obama (pawn of the leftists and the Chicago political machine) wants to do with OUR money.

I have a question. Is there a successful Catholic nation in the world? Please name one.
Sorry, it is a Catholic thing, not R v D. The Catholics are screwing up all of government so they can conquer the US just like they have done every nation south of the US. The method of divide and conquer has worked for 500 years. The Catholics have now conquered everything south of the US border. Now, they have California. Catholics do not compromise, they do not negotiate. Calif. has been in deadlock for 20 years. The US govt is in deadlock for 5 years. (NO BUDGET) In a thousand years there has not been a successful single religion nation. (Catholic ). The Constitution is secular (no religion). Keep it that way.

The bible does not trump the Constitution. The Vatican does not rule the white house. There are more Catholic Ds, than Rs. Vote all Catholics out to restore the Constitution.

Vote every Catholic out both R and D and restore the Constitution.

The Top 1% just loves this left versus right fighting. It distracts from them continuing to rape and pillage American citizens and the rest of the world.

At least with Obama, he has some redeeming qualities and he could be swayed as FDR was by the people. Robme is so far out to right field and so far gone with his greed and arrogance from being rich, that he does not even know better.

The "Scientific Method" turned religion upside down. Make observations. Come up with a theory. Then do proof of your theory. Document all the way along. Allow others to follow in your footsteps. This is contrary to all Catholic stuff. Remember the name Galileo, (1564) who thought that the earth was round. The pope offered him a nice slow death unless he repented. He did spend the rest of his life in solitary. A couple of years ago the pope finally admitted that maybe there was a slight chance, ever so slight, mind you that perhaps there was a chance that Galileo was right. Whoo-bah, and Catholics still believe this stuff that is their "belief" Vote every Catholic R and D out and restore sanity in the nation.

Oh so is it suddenly evil to be successful. I hate how people assume that Romney is evil and greedy because he has been successful in business. Also, doesn't him being successful in business make him exactly the candidate we need in times like these, our deficit has skyrocketed during Obama's term, it is time for some real change, change that can only come from an experienced professional like Romney.

Insanity - doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. (Albert Einstein)
I have a question. Is there a successful Catholic nation in the world? Please name one.
The Illegals come to this nation to escape the opression, ignorance, and failure of the nation that they come from. They came to escape from Catholic nations. Then, when here, they keep the very thing that caused the failure of their nation. The Catholic church is the common link to all of these failed nations. This is insanity! This is not a R and D problem, it is a Catholic problem. The Catholics are screwing up all of government so they can conquer the US just like they have every nation south of the US. Catholics do not compromise, they do not negotiate. Calif. has been in deadlock, and Catholic for 20 years. The US govt is in deadlock for 5 years. (30 percent of congress is Catholic, and that makes a bloc that stops everything. (NO BUDGET) There have been attempts to control the border, no go. There have been attempts to stop illegal aliens, no go. In a thousand years there has not been a successful single Catholic nation. The Constitution is secular (no religion). Keep it that way.
The bible does not trump the Constitution. The vatican does not rule the white house. (yet).

It doesn't make any difference how well he sings 'America the Beautiful' to me!!!! I am looking at the same old failed Bush policies he is peddling trying to tell us he knows how to create jobs. When all he is ever done is be a vulture captialist who made millions off other's losing their jobs. I have never heard him tell us how he is going to create these jobs except give his cronies another hefty tax break that the middle class will pay for in the end and run up the deficit some more. But, Republican's like to ignore that little detail. Everything will be just dandy again when the corporations don't have any more of those pesky regulations to keep them from robbing us blind. Well! Thanks but no thanks!!! Been there and done that, when the economy collapsed because of it. He is the same tired old 'smoke and mirror's' Republican that's been there for over 30 years now. That's almost destroyed this country with their ignorance.

GOP Govs to Romney: Release Tax Returns, Offer More Specifics

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley, called on presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney to release his tax returns in order to show voters that he has "nothing to hide." "I just believe in total transparency," said Bentley.

Some of the governors did say they would like to see more specificity from the Romney campaign as the election cycle moves toward the conventions. "It is not just enough to say repeal Obamacare, it's repeal and replace it with what?" Utah Gov. Richard Herbert said.

"Voters were just beginning to receive a clearer economic message from him," Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker said. "Now, they need more details on the budgetary end".

"If you have things to hide, then maybe you're doing things wrong. I think you ought to be willing to release everything to the American people." -- Alabama's Republican governor, Robert Bentley

If the Republican governors are starting to question him and what he is hiding, it amkes me want to see what is so damming in those returns that he is letting his entire nomination potentially go down the drain. I disagree with others who think he may have paid no taxes during those years. I think there may be evidence showing how much his church is involed with Bain and is less a Church and more a for profit business (like Scientology) only on a much larger scale.
