Dick Cheney to host fundraiser for Romney

Former vice president Dick Cheney, left, and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, right.

(CBS/AP) Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney heads to Wyoming Thursday for a fundraising event and private dinner sponsored by former Vice President Dick Cheney.

The Cheney-sponsored events Thursday evening in the resort town of Jackson, Wyoming, near Yellowstone National Park, represent a welcome endorsement for Romney, who is eager to win over more of the party's base.

Some prominent conservatives will be co-hosting the event, including Foster Friess, a financier who donated millions to a pro-Rick Santorum super PAC that attacked Romney during the primaries, reports the Washington Post.

Romney has avoided appearing in public with Cheney or with former President George W. Bush - both are seen as divisive figures by many of the swing voters he needs to win over if he's going to defeat President Barack Obama.

Polls show Romney and Obama virtually tied 3 1/2 months before the November election.

In 2008, Republican nominee John McCain downplayed any connection to the then-highly unpopular Bush and Cheney.

Romney doesn't have a close relationship with the former vice president, a veteran of five Republican presidential administrations and a huge draw for Republican donors.

While Romney speaks regularly with former President George H.W. Bush, he seldom refers by name to the most recent Bush to occupy the White House. On occasion he goes out of his way not to say Bush's name out loud and simply calls him "the predecessor" to Obama.

Cheney has generally shied away from politicking and he remains controversial, in part because of his hawkish foreign policy stances, including his support for interrogation techniques like waterboarding.

Still, Romney has embraced Cheney in the past. Last year, he told an Arizona town hall that Cheney's "wisdom and judgment" would provide a model for choosing his own vice president.

Many of Romney's policy advisers were officials in the Bush White House. Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice recently endorsed the former Massachusetts governor.

Rumor has it that right after Dick Cheney handed Mitt Romney him the multi-million dollar fund raising check, ol' Willard bent over and planted a kiss on both of Cheney's cheeks, than on his face.

Wow, there it is. Neocons triumphant. Dubya recognized the quagmire Dick and the Neocon's had placed him in by 2005, and paid less and less attention to the US Zionist lobby during his second term. Now Mitt has surrounded himself with ex-Bush neocons, and with Dick the final rat comes home to roost. A vote for Willard is a vote to shed good American blood in battles that Israeli boys and girls should be fighting. Hell Dick may name himself as VP all over again.

Oh please not Cheney! Romney is showing his strips and American voters will have none of it. Cheney should be in prison along with several other Neo CONS. This man is evil and Romney likes him. Hello America. Do we really want more of Bush's War mentality supporting this new mental case being presented as presidential material from the repugnant party?

Actually we have a Wall Street government. They could probably appoint a dead fish as President and the American sheeple would be stupid enough to vote for it if they thought that it would uphold the American values of greed and waste and money above life on earth. Very, very sad what our nation has become.

Maybe he should raise some money to compensate the people he bumped from the front of the line for the heart he got.

That he even has the nerve to show his face in public shows how out of touch with reality these people are. The haves and have mores. They could care less about 90% of the people that vote for them.

Got to hope Bush does the same. The American people need a reminder that the worlds two war criminals come from the same party.
