White House: Obama wasn't booed in Boston

(CBS News) At a campaign stop in Boston on Monday, President Barack Obama jokingly thanked the Red Sox for trading popular infielder Kevin Youkilis to the Chicago White Sox - Obama's beloved hometown team. The comment invoked what sounded like a smattering of boos.

The White House was in damage control Tuesday. Spokesman Jay Carney insisted Boston fans at the event were yelling "Yooook" (Youkilis' nickname) and not "boo" when Mr. Obama made his comment.

Aboard Air Force One, Carney - a Red Sox fan - lauded Mr. Obama for refusing to pander on sports, noting the president once refused to wear a Red Sox cap. He said the president would never even pretend that he's not a White Sox fan.

Not surprisingly, the Romney campaign had a different take on the comment.

"Last night in Boston, President Obama went to the heart of Red Sox nation and committed an error by taunting fans over the Kevin Youkilis trade to the Chicago White Sox," the Romney campaign said in a statement.

The Romney statement added: "Maybe the President should have congratulated the team for winning the World Series in 2004 and 2007. Instead, he chose to mock them for trading away one of its favorite players at a time when the team is struggling."

I love how the WH is trying to make it seem like everyone else is losing their hearing...the WH should stop trying to spin everything in the favor of this president...he was booed and he deserved to be booed...good for Boston...

Newsflash: This is not an important issue.

It is frankly unbelievable that people are STILL stupid enough to want another Republiclown Wall Street puppet in office. Mitler is a fascist that would make Hitler proud. He will get rid of the rest of our social programs, starts war with Iran and send the rest of our jobs overseas.

Man, we just don't get it, do we?

Re: Youkilis ... As "SNL" comic Seth Meyers once said: "Every team needs a guy with that 'ooooooooo' sound in his name. So when the fans are cheering, you think they're booing." Obama was NOT booed. Nice try, but, get over it, haters!

Boy, how desperate must you be there, Flip Romney, to make a campaign statement out of what obviously was Obama playing with the crowd but, then again, you need to do and say whatever you can because a) you're losing to a guy who supposedly is hated by the entire country (to hear the Republicans tell the story), and b) if you are elected it will not be because voters liked you but rather because voters didn't like Obama. Not that it will matter to you, you've already proven that you'll do or say whatever it takes to win. Way to go Flip!

That right there tells us he was being booed for his stupid comment.
The mouth pieces at the White House are full of BS saying Obama wasn't being booed.
The leftwing nuts posting here will parrot the denials of the damage control Obama Robots.

Carney would have drawn far less attention to the fact Obama was booed if he had not mentioned it at all.

Apparently; Obama has become so thin-skinned that even the slightest bit of negative reaction sends him back to Washington; crying to Michelle.!
