(CBS News) Representatives for Mitt Romney and Florida Gov. Rick Scott on Thursday shot down a report that aides to the presumptive presidential nominee have asked the fellow Republican to stop talking about economic successes in the Sunshine state while the former Massachusetts governor campaigns for the White House by hitting President Obama's stewardship of the economy.

Citing "two people familiar with the matter," Bloomberg News reported Thursday that aides to Romney asked Scott to say that unemployment would fall faster if the former Bain Capital executive were in power.

"Many governors have brought new ideas and fresh approaches to their states, and Gov. Romney frequently praises them for their ability to overcome the job-stifling policies of the Obama administration. Any statement to the contrary is not in line with Gov. Romney's thoughts or his message," Andrea Saul, a spokeswoman for the Romney campaign, told CBS News in a prepared statement responding to a request for comment.

And a spokeswoman for Scott, Jackie Schutz told CBS News that "no Romney official has asked Governor Scott or staff to change our message."

"It's nice to have even Democrats and President Obama's campaign pushing a story acknowledging the good job Gov. Scott is doing in Florida," she said, adding the caveat that "we know we have a long way to go to reach Gov. Scott's goal of 700,000 jobs in seven years."

Scott has been publicly trumpeting recent declines in the state's unemployment rate, falling 2 percentage points in twelve months to 8.6 percent in May. That is still above the 8.2 percent national rate.

The declining unemployment rate in Florida and other key swing states presents a problem for Romney's campaign, which has made the lackluster recovery a centerpiece of its campaign.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich, also a Republican, made an appearance with Romney last month and touted the 80,000 job openings in the state as Romney sat quietly listening.

I believe that Romney would pass on good news on the money level due to the actions of the current president as much as i believe he'd wear the kings new outfit to show off its fancy threads and those of you that know the fable of the kings new cloths would know you'd see his underwear and little else if he did that. well Unless you were so elect that you saw the fabled invisible suit that only the intelligent visionaries can see if you are a child you see the bvds.. ONLY plus his embareAssment.

How is the governor of Florida "creating" these new jobs, or are they McJobs? To a job counter a job is a job. The middle class person was making $50,000 per year and is now making $8000 per year plus tips delivering pizzas, but it is a JOB.

You are exactly right. I live in Florida and I used to make $52,000 yr 10 yrs ago and I just recently found a part-time job making $300 a week after being unemployed for 2 1/2 yrs. This was the best I could get. There are no decent paying jobs in Palm Beach County Florida unless you are a nurse. I switch careers into medical sales marketing cancer care equipment. My new employer told me the best he could pay me was $300 a week. There was over 150 applicants for this job and I was the lucky one to get hired. I can barely make my expenses to live and I have no health insurance. It is my opinion that Rick Scott has done absoultely nothing to improve the job situation in Palm Beach Couny. I can't wait until his term is up and I will vote for any one other than Rick Scott. The State of Florida has gone down hill since he was elected governor.

That darn Obama, he inherited a disaster caused by Bush's wars and tax cuts and turned it completely around. He is a foreign policy mastermind who is killing America's enemies. He is doing great in spite of a Republicon controlled House and Senate that wants America to fail. Darn that guy.

But is this a hoot for those of us in Florida?! Rick Scott is saying that unemployment , .2% lower with him, is because of his Governor GOP policies! Actually, every major news outlet and the federal government is suing Rick Scott, including consumer groups for excluding unemployment benefits to the unemployed!

So Romney is running for President and says everything in America
is horrible. Except it's not! And this calls attention to GOP Governor Rick Scott's fuzzy math.

Poor Willard. Keeps getting twisted up in his phantom logic. It wasn't supposed to be like this. He thought that all he had to do was give softball interviews to Fox News and offer up some very, very scripted platitudes.

Gee Mitt, running for President is hard!

What a dumb rumor. As if Gov. Scott is the ONLY one who could talk about good economic news. Are there no reporters or economists in Florida? Does Obama have no access to public reports of economic improvement in Florida so he can tout it himself?

And who is likely to be more responsible for good economic news - the US President? Or policies more specific to the state put in place by it's governor? Look at Texas for example, it well-known that the policies of Rick Perry, not Obama, are responsible for it's status as the #1 state for job growth (in spite of Obama actually).

Predictably, some idiot Lefties will eat this story up and use it to fuel their own hatred. parrots comes to mind as a classic example. LMAO!

Then why do so many republicans always accuse Obama of not creating jobs, if it is the governors that do it?
Just like Mitty FLIP-FLOP, it is predictably that his parrots would say the same thing.
hillzhavays replies:

The President and the governors are jointly responsible to employ policies favorable to the creation of jobs - the president in the whole country, governors in their respective states. Some are just more successful than others. Case in point: Rick Perry is obviously more successful at creating jobs than Obama.

But you apparently think it's only one or the other.

Not a real deep thinker are you, smoking? That would definitely tag you as a liberal.
